Cherry eye is irritation and subsequent prolapse of the third eye lid. There are 4 procedures to fix it. The causes and treatment are explained. It can look like a red lump or bulge in the corner of a dog's eye.
Treatment advice is for all dog breeds: French Bulldogs, Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds, Poodles etc.

Just a suggestion, keep eyedrops on hand. I lubricate the eye with the eye wash before i massage it back into place. Also, a warm wash cloth over the eye while you massage it helps.

This helped! My grandmother can't afford any sort of surgery right now for him. So I pushed it back in. Yay! Luckily it's only been like 3 days so it wasn't big

I have fixed this several times with one of my Frenchie's with a warm wet cloth in circular motions. It should be done right away so the owners should be told not to leave it for days. Truly the warm cloth is a really easy fix. I believe that in some cases moisture eye drops can help if it is not working but it is usually just with a warm wet face cloth in circular motions and it pops back really quickly. I am finding that my kids cherry eye has happened twice when a puppy, and twice more much later. I believe that it is from possible stress. I have come home to it and fixed it right away. It is super easy if the owner does this right away the longer it's left the dog may need vets help or other things like you suggested

Just did this with my dog again today. After a few days of persistent attempts, I finally got it back in. The vet says it's not going to be a lifelong fix, so think of this as a bandaid, not a lifetime fix. And some owners just do this two, three times a month in lue of surgery. This video helped me so much! My dog had her second cherry eye today. The first time it went away on it own. This time it wasn't. I massaged and it wouldn't go in. Lucky for my u had steriods from when i adopted her and she was being treated for heartworms and i gave her those. The swelling wemt down and i just popped it back in. I will mention this to her vet but Im so glad my baby doesnt have this irritation anymore today!! Thankyou!

One of my Weimaraner pups developed this problem, she did not have it at birth, it happened from playing with the other pups and she got her ‘eyelid’ scratched so the vet did what’s called the ‘pocket technique’ and I watched him stitch it and repair it!! The Suture material he used was as thin as a human hair he told me. The Pup healed up very well. I did have other vets tell me you have to do both eyes because if it happens in one it’ll happen to the other, but that is not true and that’s what the vet told me who did the repair you don’t have to do both eyes. 👍🏻

My surgen does recommend that it does get surgically removed , even if we put it back into place because once they start playing and blood pressure gets high , it will pop back out regardless

Cherry eye can happen at anytime or can it only happen by a tight collar. I’m getting my frenchie next week I was thinking about having her wear a harness only so this wouldn’t happen to me.

It van happen at any time. My dog has had a pretty loose collar that was most comfortable for her and a harness yet she mostly wear neither at home and still has it.

Poor baby sound like she has other problems besides that cherry eye 😢! Thanks for sharing. I check my frenchie daily for any signs of developing this. Had no idea if it does happen that with surgery it will cause dry eye and or other issues that I would have to treat as well, as I already had in my mind I would immediately opt to surgery which o now will avoid at all and any cost.

I have a Neapolitan Bull Mastiff and he has cherry eye and i have done everything i can to sort it and my dog decided one of my finger was something to try and rip of come close to it and for me to take him to the vet it is going to cost me 1200 dollars and this is in New Zealand. Its not easy to fix cherry eye yourself because some dogs are very aggressive and i did notice that the dog he was trying to sort out was growling at him. so i say think very carefully when doing these types of things

I take it because she's Merle the owner wants to breed her however in my bully experience of 30yrs this condition tends to be hereditary and she should not be bred and be kept as a pet only when we breed we breed to better the breed in my humble opinion this is asking for trouble down the proverbial road.

Hello James - Trying to fix this cherry eye on a 10 week old puppy. Massage technique is not working -question one is where do I get the steroid you speak of?are they from the vet- prescription only ?or are they available in the online Canadian pharmacy you mention? @@gyanmehrotra7778 we went to a place called Tudor House in Wolverhampton. They are a specialist vet . They removed it and it cost £100 no anaesthetic it took seconds !! These other vets are conning people telling them they must put the dogs under and have it stitched back into place first before they think about removing it as it can lead to dry eye in the future. That’s rubbish because each time they do the operation to stick it back in place they weaken the pocket so invariably it always comes back and they make even More money! And who wants their puppy put under anaesthetic if it’s not necessary! Our vet fed us this crap and wanted to charge us £850!! Robbing bastards ! My breeder recommended Tudor House and they were wonderful

Help me understand this cherry eye condition, is it not the result of the tear duct being plugged? Thats clearly inflammation and is why that 3rd lid is bulging (while the other is not). In the vet circles, what’s the opinion (with regards to prevention) on tear duct clogging, is that dietary? I pay attention to what I eat and acknowledge what foods affect my body and I have to believe this is the same for animals. I think what created my pets cherry eye was the introduction of cheese (dairy) as training treat. You feedback is appreciated.

I went to the doggy eye Dr, and she said some breeds, mostly the smaller ones, have a lot going on in the curvature of the skull snout area. It's just a bad roll of the dice and in the greater life time of the dog to start hip and joint vitamins when they reach adulthood if you notice cherry eye in a puppy under 2yrs old.

Cherry Eye can only be fixed by surgery. "Teaching" people to do this online as some cheap alternative is extremely dangerous. You are putting a dogs sight at risk and potentially even worse. I'm absolutely shocked somebody would be so irresponsible as to post such a video!

@LoveMyPups go study veterinary medicine and surgery, do extensive research on this condition (actual peer reviewed articles etc) and you will understand how utterly stupid it is to advise anyone to do this. Actually, basic knowledge of canine anatomy, the known risks of the general public (who many can barely look after an animal appropriately) trying to perform such things on a vulnerable animal would tell you all you need to know on how utterly stupid and dangerous putting out this video is (and any remotely like it).
