I'm about to fit laminate for the first time (I'm 63). Starting in the bedroom and then the living room and hall (we live in a small bungalow). You've made this look ridiculously easy and given me a bit more confidence, so thanks for this great video :)

I cant thank you enough for that last piece of advice in the video at 5:07 about the covering gap. I have seen every video where the gap is created by spacers and don't say word about them. I am like what happend to that space in the final picture. Basically, you cover with wood board.

Love the video! My question is, it looks like the laminate flooring is being placed over carpet pad. Is that right? Can I skip the step of removing my carpet pad? (It's glued to the floor and would be a massive pain to remove.)

While you can cut laminate flooring with a circular saw, a laminate flooring cutter makes the job a lot easier. And they're not that expensive: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B0BYY4Q/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00B0BYY4Q&linkCode=as2&tag=ytaj-20&linkId=GFOTU5HPAPFVXLE2

You will find it much easier if you actually start at the door and work away, that way you can slide your first piece under the door frame once you've trimmed the bottom of the frame.

In the real world you never get a room like this, no doors, no real insets, no skirting boards. Does show the basics, but no sign of you having measured the room across to see how the planks will fall at the other end as the last thing you want is a board that's 2cm wide.

Great vid...thanks Craig. Something worth noting though is, if you've removed the skirting so as not to need scotia trim on the perimeter, you don't need to have the 10mm expansion gap inwards from the wall...the skirting board sits over and outwards from the wall...so the gap can be under and outwards from the wall.
@andyfrancis40958 жыл бұрын
so dont you have to worry if the room isnt square??
@writerNB6 жыл бұрын
Nice vid (with a few provisos) : Yes - Leave a 10mm expansion gap (but u can establish the gap with spacers - little blocks 10mm in width) If you have to trim your end planks - Yes - Use a circular saw ... But the plank should be held securely before cutting - I would always use a workbench to secure a long plank like that - then cut. Craig is making it look very easy, but I suspect he's an experienced carpenter. If you're not, secure your plank before cutting with a tool as dangerous as a circular saw, please! Yes- Always use safety glasses when using a circular saw and wear grip-gloves. Yes - Fit floor beading for a nice finish at the edges... Not sure what "quadpede" is? Must be a scouse thing? :) PS: Cutting floor beading at the corners is a bit fiddly - you might wish to check out this vid here that shows you how to cut 45 degree angles : kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGSQXqN5j6eSeMU

Where’s the dust mask 👎👎👎🤔🤔🤔
@michaelpackwood63910 ай бұрын
Some good observations about safety below @writerNB. Yes I agree that safety specs are good idea, but what about a nose/mouth mask/ aspirator of some type? The dust generated from cutting laminate ( and incidentally mdf ) is some of the worst possible to breathe in. Absolutely avoid cutting laminate with power tools UNLESS YOU ARE MASKED UP!
@u.sonomabeach65282 жыл бұрын
Well explained! A note to any new installers; When he says to start the install on the left and work your way to the right, that means to start on the left against the wall lay that entire row then move over continue each row

Crap flooring. When using quick step you don't need to slide the board along to click it in. It's easier to use a guillotine to cut the board to length. That saw makes too much dust, and it's bad for health not wearing a mask. He makes it sound easy, no mention about cutting tha thickness of the board out from the bottom of the facings and door frame. 6mm board are rubbish, it's best to use 8mm or thicker.

The vast majority of people will be laying laminate flooring in a room with skirting boards already attached and will either have to cut the bottom of the skirting with an oscillating multi-tool to allow the boards to fit underneath or fit beading all around. So although the video is helpful it doesn't depict a typical real world installation.

not really you can always just continue laminating into the next room but you have to make sure its dead straight otherwise your flooring will look skewed. t-molds make it easier so you dont have to worry about that happening
