I had no problems at all understanding this video. I'm advanced and work as a seamstress, but I used this video to teach a friend to sew. I only had to give a little guidance here & there. For example, you cut one inch in the skirt to make a small. Since she is closer to a large, we cut about 1 1/2 inch. Just a lucky guess. I think you did a great job! I'm hoping to use more of your videos to teach others to sew so keep em coming!

Well, I saw several comments complaining that your instructions weren't easy enough to follow, and I had to put my 2 cents in. You did a wonderful job, and anyone with the smallest amount of knowledge about sewing should be able to figure it out. I loved it because I'm trying to teach someone to sew without patterns because she would like to eventually design her own items. I think this was a great start. As soon as she finished her hems and the last few details, I'll share a picture of her dress.

Kristi Leigh yeah it's easy if you already know how to make a circle skirt but more difficult if not as the filing technique was brief and camera work not showing detail. lovely easy tutorial for those with basic knowledge though.

@mumblesandwool1243
@mumblesandwool1243 8 жыл бұрын
look up a circle skirt tutorial. you have to fold the fabric, then take your waist measurement. divide that by 6.28 and that will be a fourth of your circle (since the skirt is folded, when you cut it, it will be a full circle unfolded) draw a curve by taking the measuring tape of your final measurement (the number you get after 6.28) from the corner of the fabric, and keep the top of the measure tape lined uo to the cirber, and mark however many inches the last mwasurement was. pivot the tape and mark from one end all the way to the other end of the fabric. you should have a small curved line near the corner of the fabric. after that, decide how long you want the skirt to be, take note if that measurement and do the exact same thing you did for the waist, only this time using the measurement of length you just took. then with the fabric still folded, cut along the curved lines you made from the measurement. annika victoria has a great tutorial here kn yourube for measurements for a circle skirt and how to figure it out. i hope this helps!

@DIYwithTeiraney
@DIYwithTeiraney 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Tiffany When you cut out the circle skirt, you want to cut the waist the size of your waist measurement. You can start by cutting an inch off...then open the skirt put it up to your waist cut more until its your size. Or you could fold the tape measure and cut the waist size.

Hi! Super excited to find this video. Love your dress! I have a spandex fabric....will that work?? Thanks a million!!!

Hi you can make a shorter skirt with 2 yards... Like knee length or a little above. You will need 5 yards to get the long, full skirt. That will also be enough left to make the top. Thanks for watching!

Hello Ms.J I wanted to know if chiffon would work for the skirt? And I have leather vinyl for the top part. (It's all white) and I brought 120" chiffon cause I couldn't get how to cut n sew it together for the length but anyway will chiffon work or Nah. Lol😄
@DIYwithTeiraney
@DIYwithTeiraney 9 жыл бұрын
Kelvina Moore yes you can use chiffon for the skirt. You are still going to have to combine them to get the width and length equal. You need it to be an even square. I hope that helps.

@DIYwithTeiraney
@DIYwithTeiraney 10 жыл бұрын
Lol! You need to move your skirt over as you cut. That will help keep it straight. If that doesn't help...cut a circle skirt out of newspaper, much easier to handle and control. Open it up and check thats its a good circle. Use that as a pattern when cutting your skirt.

Hello there, This dress is gorgeous on you. As i read the comments below i try to understand what they are saying, i am not a seamstress, but, i believe these ladies would like to know how is it that you arrived at the measuring of your body to reflect on the material measurements, then the cutting will make more sense in their minds. one of the readers would like to know if you could translate the video which is very hard to do. But, thank so much, you did a great video, you would have a lot more following if you did this video or another one showing how to do the body measuring and putting it like on a butcher paper or something like that and then cut. Thanks for listening.

I understood everything up until the very end. This is a DIY, I need just a little more guidance then verbally telling me instructions. That defeats the purpose for me to look at KZbin videos. Don't mean to be harsh and I'm sorry if I do. That's my honest opinion/critique on this video.
@AveCaesar2025

You say you cut down an inch from the top of the circle skirt for the waistline, this creates a waist size of approx 6". Did you give the incorrect figure, cause the only real way to safely work out the waist circumference is using algebra. Looks like a truly lovely dress but the instructions are so confusing, and I'm an extremely experienced sewer..

Have just laid out fabric for a circle skirt and then cut an inch down from the point just to see the exact size waist that gave, and it comes out at 5". Other than Barbi I doubt that waist will fit anybody.
