Dear, Dear Froggy, I enjoy this channel so much. I've been sewing since 1959, and I can assure you that doll patterns need as many alterations for a specific doll as human patterns do for individual people. There used to be a free online chart that compared doll sizes and measurements. Even individual American Girl dolls vary in their individual measurements. I have several AG clothes publications, and each one strongly advises checking the dolls' measurements against the patterns! My mother made my Barbie wardrobe in 1966 (I was 16 and still playing with dolls!), and until she passed away, she never let me forget what a trial fitting Barbie was. I've made Barbie clothes for nieces and grand girls, and they are not as easy as they look.

You are just a little older than I am. I learned how to sew on my mother’s singer, sewing machine that she bought with savings bonds from a secondhand store and from there made dresses for my sister and I, doll clothes, and this may sound a little funny, but my love for miniatures came from my father. He built a three/eighths miniature roadshow of Ringling, Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus from 1953. And literally he was working on his last wagon three days before he died. My father was a prominent person in our community and it was a very, very big wake and funeral, but part of it pictures of what the circus look like and my mother sewed all those tents and all of that on that old singer for my father. It is still set up today. It lives in its own little house 26 x 26 and very well alarmed he’s been gone for 11 years, but at his way, we showed the first wagon that he made, and the last wagon that he made. I learned how to make little skirts out of bits of lace for the trapeze people little costumes for the people who would be on the float wagons so I understand that at 16 you still loved your Barbies because so did I. And we were both fortunate enough to have mothers who taught us how to sew. I did make sure that my children knew how to sew on a button and fix a rip in their clothing before they went away to college, but they really weren’t interested in any of the other things that I would’ve liked to have taught them.

Bridgerton is about the human male hunting season where the desperate human female and it's mother ensnare and trap the human male with mating dances, offerings of food and currency and the head female of the whole clan decides who is the most valuable human female based off literally 15 seconds of interaction with said human female.

When buying fabric from spoonflower, at least you get to see the real size of the design compared to the size of fabric you're getting. Plus you can use your own graphic art on the fabric. It's not cheap but if you're only buying a flat quarter here and there for doll projects it's worth it.

I feel like I owe you a commission. I have learned so much and have improved my skills so much that I hope that a heartfelt thank you will suffice for now. With all of your room and miniature demos I have gotten three different projects from three different people for the holiday one of them was for a gender reveal And your outfits without a pattern were right up my alley. After years of quilting and making lots and lots of school clothes and many many adolescent and younger Halloween costumes who knew that there was someone like you out there who made my life 100% easier. Thank you again so much for everything that you contribute for everything that you teach, and that you are kind and generous enough to allow us to use your work in patterns. You’re doing far more good in the world than you’ll ever ever know.

Love the historical aspect. Just a hint: if you're going to clip small curves on a regular basis, it's time to invest in a good pair of small embroidery scissors. They make avoiding overcuts a lot easier. Hand basting also helps eliminate the danger of sewing over pins. 💕

Most of the major pattern companies have patterns for the regency gowns. On-line the Simplicity site has patterns for Simplicity and Burda while the Vogue site has patterns for McCalls and Butterick. Check in the costume section. I don't know your skill level but Simplicity has a very nice one but I think the one from Butterick is a little simpler to make. New patterns come out in the spring so I suspect new patterns based on Bridgerton will be coming out then. Hope this helps if you feel adventurous in crafting.
@IslandMarigold
@IslandMarigold 3 жыл бұрын
Only warning is sometimes the costume patterns take shortcuts that the normal patterns do not, so adjustments may need to be made. I made a regency era dress last year inspired by Natasha's in War and Peace (1966). It was a lot of fun! I hope you have fun with yours as well!

@@IslandMarigold very true. The Simplicity one seems to be fairly period accurate. No zippers :) I'm a big period clothing nerd. I just haven't found a good reason WHY I need Janet Arnold's books yet since they are rather expensive.

I love this! Period and cultural clothing patterns for dolls tend to be pretty rare, so I really like it when a doll enthusiast explores these options. As a suggestion for a future video: how about one focusing on sewing tips and tricks for doll clothing? Working on such a small scale has some pretty unique challenges, so stuff like how to draft a pattern, how to hand sew, how to machine sew, how to pin, how to reduce bulk, etc. would be very useful. I know you've touched on several of these things in numerous videos, but having a specific video that someone could use as a reference (rather than trying to remember which video had that one particular tip they need at the moment) would be SUPER helpful.

When sewing projects with tiny seams it can be helpful to use tissue paper under the fabric when putting it under the machine needle. It can help the fabric go through smoothly without be pulled into the bottom of the machine. It is also helpful to do this when sewing with slippery fabric such as satin.

If you don't like stitching your raw edges all the time but still want to prevent fraying, you can always use glue. I use tacky or even elmer's craft glue and you can either use a paintbrush to brush the edges after you cut or you can draw around your pattern and onto the fabric and then brush glue onto the lines. That way it's already sealed while you cut. There's also a fray guard at craft stores in the sewing section, but glue is just so much easier and cheaper.

Froggy, a bit of advice about seeing those tiny pieces: if you use tissue paper, underneath the pieces, a larger piece, and sew from the tissue paper right onto the seam, then the machine won't eat your fabric. Plus afterwards, you just tear the tissue paper away.

^^ YAY! I was HOPING that someone would do a DIY craft of historically accurate doll outfits! Regency's one of my fave outfits from history, and I played one dress up game that had this theme! Thank you SOOO much for this craft! I hope that you'll think of doing more Historically accurate fashions for dolls, maybe based on the times and nationalities of the Disney Princesses! (Girl, I'm one of the Disney fans who LOVE history growing up!) Also, Raya and the Last Dragon is something I WISH I can see at the movie theater if the pandemic never happened, but I'm excited that we're getting a movie with another Asian themed "Princess" character! I don't know if Raya will be considered as a Disney Princess, but she sounds like she could be a Disney WARRIOR Princess (Like Mulan), kinda like Xena!

Froggy--If you look at Jennifer Ehle's gowns in that version of Pride and Prejudice, and in the ones which pay attention to authentically reproduced Recency gowns, you will see that the "pouf" in the back, billowing out a bit. The fabric did, indeed, bear tiny prints and the lightweight cotton weaves weren't weighty enough to pull the back fullness down.
