DIY How To Make Your Own Cargo Jeans

Yes!! The second pair of jeans I did, I used a pair of black cargo pants. I cut off the flap pockets from the cargo pants, then added them to the front of my jeans. I added black, white and gray paisley print patches, then some embroidery and painting. They were perfect for work at the studio because the pockets were deep enough for paintbrushes and markers, etc.

The waistband in jeans can be used as a casing for elastic. Just slash an opening inside of the waistband under the front two belt loops to hide the stitching. Then insert the elastic and safety pin it in place until the correct elastic length can be determined. It will probably have to be stitched by hand or the stitching will show. I just sew patches over the opening so I can unpick them if I need to replace the elastic. I used no roll so it would stay in place. After they are washed and dried a couple of times the gathering doesn't really show. It will if the waistband is gathered a lot though. It makes using the toilet easier not having to unzip and unbutton the pants.

Wow. They look heavy; but, they are interesting. If you put something in those lower pockets, can you bend your knees or get down on the floor? Cargo pockets on the sides (that don't get in the way of the knees) are handy for keeping knives, markers, pencils, and other objects safe and ready for use. Those strings look like they could get in the way (or be dangerous) if worn for work in many areas. However, they do make a fashion statement.

You have to be careful with regular bleach as it causes the fabric to break down if you bleach too much. I wonder if anything else would work

Why don't you try hand sewing? It takes longer but you can make anything that you can with a machine, and many things that you can't. Start with something simple like a small pillow! You can do it!😊
