Great video! I totally love an installation video that's step by step and in the easiest way to understand but doesn't skimp on the important information. As soon as a question popped into my head, you'd answer it within a couple seconds. Great job and well done. Thank you for all your work and sharing your knowledge with us. In my case, it didn't come with any plans or directions, just a safety sheet. You helped fill in a lot of blanks.

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Anytime :-) I was wondering, did you get much of any burn off from any materials? Like some new camp stoves/heaters you have to do an outside burn before you use in a tent. Look forward to browsing your other videos. Thank you bud, gonna need it lol. I hope your day is awesome as well.

Hey John, nope! Never had to burn it outside. Come to think of it, I don’t remember any burn off smell. I honestly don’t remember any oily residue on the product. Thanks again for the questions :)

What type of paint did you use to paint it black? Does it scratch?
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser 9 ай бұрын
Hey Rebecca! Thanks for the comment. If I remember correctly, I went to Home Depot and purchased a spray paint can of Rust-Oleum high heat automotive paint. Also, I haven’t had any instances of scratching, but it is in a low traffic area and we are careful with it. I’m sure if I wanted to put a scratch on it, I could do so, but like I said, so far so good and it looks good. Hope this helped :) thanks for the support!

Hi- Great work.. can you do a video on how you built the surround from start to finish?
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Жыл бұрын
Hey Courtney! Thanks for finding interest in this. To answer your question… I currently have no plans to install one of these in the near future but if I do I’ll definitely do a surround build video. But to sum it up in a few sentences… the directions tell you the size box you need to build for the fireplace with every dimension you need. But just like how the video says, you have to take into consideration the thickness of the tile you want to use. I did a video on the mantel already of you haven’t checked that out, but like I said, it’s a fairly easy fireplace to install. Heck you can even just install it on a wall with nothing surrounding it. I’ll see what I can do for a video. I hope you have a great night and thanks again for checking this out. :)

Awesome work. I have this exact one...have not opened yet. Far as the non combustible material....could I use wood stud and in case it in cement boards like you did here? Or should it be both metal studs and cement board? Your whole setup.looks very professional btw. 👏🏾
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks E. White for the question! As for a "correct by-the-book" answer, step 4 specifically states to use metal studs with a cement type board as an incasement. Metals studs are really easy to cut and install with sheet metals screws. Drywall screws can also be easily screwed into the metal with pre-drilled pilot holes to hold the cement board in place. Now, as for a "not-by-the-book" answer, that's basically up to you using your best judgement. I can tell you for a fact that I'd be completely comfortable using wood studs in this installation and here's my reasons why I would deviate. First, the flame is contained in the fireplace box and it is a fairly controlled low flame. Secondly, a cement board incases the whole interior of the cavity. Third, if you go the extra step of mortaring the joints you get added protection. Fourth, the unit "floats" inside of the recess and has an air gap all around (besides the anchor point). Lastly, I've installed a few other "real" fireplaces and they call for less distances to combustible materials. I'm personally ok with using wood studs if certain clearances are met and if I feel safe to do so but that's a choice I do believe you'll ultimately have to make for you to feel safe and worry free that nothing will get too hot and catch on fire. Sometimes it just pays to play it safe than to be sorry down the road. I hope this answer can point you in the right direction and I do apologize if it's not the answer you were looking for. Good luck on your install and if you remember, let me know how it goes. I always like hearing how installations go and others like hearing them as well because the more info we get out there, the better folks can stay informed and maybe learn something from you! Take care my friend.

Just curious how hot the actual metal frame and metal enclosure get? Too hot to touch?
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Ай бұрын
Hey Brien, thanks for the question. The metal does get hot, especially the area right above where the flame is and yea you definitely wouldn't want to touch it. As for the rest of it, it really doesn't get that hot and I've never had an issue with it. Hope this helps. Thanks

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser thanks for the reply! One more question..does the base/bottom of the fireplace on the inside get pretty hot from what you can tell? Just asking b/c i've seen some of the higher end ethanol fireplaces that have the glass rocks and also the led lights under the rocks and i'm wondering if there is a way to incorporate that into this design? The burners themselves look like they are made of heavy gauge steel, which apparently has poor thermal conductivity. So in theory, the base shouldn't get too hot..but obviously I don't want to just throw in some led lights under the fire glass without making an educated decision and risk them being a fire hazard.

@@brienrekuc6347 hey Brien! That's a good question. Umm, from what I remember it does get somewhat hot and yes the canisters are made of thick steel. Having said that though, we don't use our entirely too much. It's more of a decorative piece but having said that, we do use it when it gets really cold. May I suggest, if you don't use it very often, why don't you just slap some lights in there and then when you want to use them, take them out. Of course unless you are using it for home heating all the time then I can see that being unhelpful. Anyhow, I hope this helped you and thanks again for reaching out. My apologies for this being a late reply. Work had me slammed today... which, is a good thing :)

Now that you've gotten to use the fireplace for a while, how long does a fire usually last if you fill up the burners and leave them open on the max setting? I've heard most bioethanol fuels burn out faster than the 4 plus hours advertised on the bottles.
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Жыл бұрын
Hey KC! Thanks for coming by and asking this question. You are absolutely right with your estimated time. Sometimes it will go a bit longer but that just might be because I put a little more fuel in there. We don’t use it often. Mostly for company coming over to make that area more cozy. And we only fill it up when we want to use it, because if you just close the burner top, the fuel eventually dries up, so we don’t want to waste it. We still really like and and it makes the space feel more inviting. Would we use it as a primary heat source. Absolutely not. That’s what our wood burner is for. I hope I answered your question and if you have any others, feel free to fire away :) thanks again KC and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend :)

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser thanks for replying so quickly. If you were to time it, how long will the fire typically last with the unit fully fueled and the burner all the way open? -Would you say closer to 4 hours? -Closer to 3 hours? -Closer to 2 hours? -Closer to 1 hour?
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Жыл бұрын
Oh no worries. I love trying to help. I would say closer to 4 hours if not more. I’ve never ran it full open because the flame gets pretty high and I don’t like taking chances especially if I’m not in the room with it the whole time, but at half open we can get it close to have it run most of the day, so like 7-9 hours. Do you have a specific use you’re trying to get out of it?

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser thank you! You answered my question exactly. We just bought a new home that doesn't have the option for a gas fireplace. I'm looking to put in a fireplace like this in our living room. I know it's not as economical as gas, but if I can narrow down how long a 1 liter bottle of bioethanol fuel typically burns for then I can at least know what to expect and plan accordingly. Thank you for answering that question. I think the last question I might have is are you satisfied with the flame height? In a lot of the videos I've seen the flame height of the bioethanol fireplaces seem a bit smaller than a gas fireplace.
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser Жыл бұрын
Super glad I can help. So I’ve seen a few gas fireplaces and I’ve noticed that the flames from them can be rather small in my opinion. And actually a lot of people try and do things to those fireplaces to make the flame seem bigger. My father in law has a gas powered fireplace and the flame is so small. We’ve tried everything to get it to go bigger and it just won’t work. As for the ethanol fireplace, when you first light it off, the flame can look rather small, but as it burns (say after 5-10 minutes) it can get rather large and that’s the main reason why I don’t have the burner full open. If you watch the video again, you can kind of see it for from smaller to larger as it stays lit. We’re happy with it and it serves its purpose for what we want it to do. It really ties in the room well. It can make the room feel a bit warmer when it goes for a longer amount of time so it will heat, but definitely not as a primary source of heat like I stated before. I think you’ll be happy with it. Especially if it’s the only option you have at the moment.

How hot does it get
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser 3 жыл бұрын
It can definitely put off some heat. We have it in a room that is approximately 12x10 and we can notice it heat up the room. As for the insert itself, it does heat up. I do have a wooden mantel above the firebox and it does get warm to the touch, but in my opinion, it’s definitely not hot enough to be a burn hazard. If you follow the directions for installation about combustibles clearances there should be no worry. This answer your question?

@@StoneyCreekSparkchaser yea pretty much my living room is 40*25 so I was just curious. Im up in the air getting this or going with gas. How much does it cost to run it? Sorry for all the question
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser
@StoneyCreekSparkchaser 3 жыл бұрын
It’s totally fine, I don’t mind. That space seems a bit big, but they do make a version that is a bit longer which has 3 burner trays. That could make a difference. I would say this fireplace is good for that decorative look with some heat. It works great for my situation, but yours may need more power if your looking for a steady source of heat. As for cost, I’m not sure but the ethanol to me might cost more to run. It could be around 20 dollars a day or two, but I’m really not sure. Hope this helps Brandon and if you have any other questions, just fire away :)
