DIY Kabuki Curtain Drop System (For Under $275)

This is a brief explanation of the DIY Kabuki Curtain Drop System that we built at Cedarbrook Church in Menomonie WI for the Easter 2022 services. I tried to document everything that we did to create a successful system in hopes that it might help others who are looking to do something similar.

Thanks for the video! Quick question. Once the safety pin is out, how do you make the bar rotate?

So for us, we were able to actually have someone stand up in the mezzanine and manually rotate it with their hand. That probably won't work in most stage setups. So I might try to develop a pin system that could be pulled out by a string. Then if the friction is low enough, the bar should rotate right away. We were fortunate enough not to have to do this because of our setup.

Hi, I would like to know how I would do the opposite. I want a curtain raise for my reception in Milwaukee in a few months. Any tips would be great. Thanks.

Doing a curtain raise would be a little bit trickier. But I am sure it would be possible! The best way I can think to do it would be a pulley system like we used to get the curtain up. I explained a little bit about this system at 5:30 in the video.

Did you have to sew the pieces of fabric together? I emailed Fabric Wholesale Direct website and they said they can't make a large piece of fabric that big.

Yes. I believe that 10ft wide is the biggest they sell. So I found a lady at our church who is good at sewing and she sewed the pieces together for us.

Thanks! We used a black gas pipe. I believe it was just called "black pipe" when we bought it.
