Sincerest condolences for you and your family. There is nothing that can be said that will make it better, but know that she will be watching over you. I lost my dad suddenly, almost 5 years ago (he was only 58). Watching you every week gives me a little piece of him back (he was a contractor and we would tackle a new or continued project at my house every week). He passed before I found your channel, but I know he would have loved it (as a kid, I would watch New Yankee Workshop with him every week). Thanks for all that you do. And a great job as usual- I like that it mimics the shape of the Kuerig.

Hey Steve, here's a few ideas (since you asked) :) 1. Staying with the plexiglass theme, what about vertical channel dividers as wide and deep as a k-cup, attached to a backer board, with framed sides, top and bottom, and the plexiglass attached to the front of the channels, short of the top and bottom by the diameter of the cup. Then load them from the top with the label facing out, and they gravity-feed to pull out from the bottom. 2. If loading vertical channels is too cumbersome, and your dump bin box approach takes up too much counter space to have one for each flavor, how about stackable dump bins. Maybe the shape of those small parts bins where the sides have an angled pointy front, to which is attached a front bottom piece to retain the cups and the front top is open for reaching in, then further connect the sides with a bottom and a back. These simple bins could have dowel legs that fit into holes in the top of the bin below, and you could have 3 or 4 stackable bins next to your Keurig (all painted in signature Steve Ramsey festive colors, of course!). 3. Another approach could be a flat box that the Keurig sits on, open at the front, which houses a pull out drawer, divided in two, then dump 2 flavors into these spaces. 4. You could also make a vertically-divided box that houses two or more dump bins that pivot out from the box on 2 dowel pins in their front bottom corners, like the old potato/onion bins. You could do up the front like an old apothecary theme, with dark stain, brass pulls and label holders, etc. 5. Or you could get some small square baskets around 6-8" and build an open rack for them to sit in, like unattached drawers. Maybe the baskets could be a loose weave with holes to see through, and the rack could be a minimal look out of shop-made hardwood dowels or strips, 2 front and back stiles for each vertical section, joined to 2 front and back rails for each level.

Dave, just an idea...to ease the removal of the paper and the double-sided tape; first apply some masking tape (like the blue painters tape). The tape is WAY easier to remove and leaves no residue. Thanks for all your videos sir!

You could try to build narrower dispensers, each column would hold one row of the cups (maybe even one flavor per column). To hold them in the right position you cold use the lip on the cups themselves. Layer up 3 layers of the acrylic on the edges of the columns. The firs layer is a bit wider with enough space between them for the bottom of the cup, the middle one is a bit narrower (giving space for the lip of the cups) and then one big piece as a top layer that covers all the columns at once (like you did here) and completes (closes off) all the tracks. The tracks are open on the top. If you put one cup in it should slide down in the tracks using the lip on the capsules. Then fill up each column using the tracks. Dispensing will be taken care of by gravity itself. I'm sorry to hear about your mom!
@brucelee33887 жыл бұрын
Excellent idea. I personally wouldn't bother with the layered acrylic, just keep the spaces narrow enough that the capsules can't turn over and jam - you'll have to experiment for each brand/type of coffee machine.

Very sorry to hear about your mom. For the design issue, you might need to use a straight tube with a solid bottom and front notch opening. You could cut a vertical channel so you could see the fullness of each tube.

Steve sorry to hear about your mum, very said news. As a way of improving your design, all I can suggest is something like mini ice tongs could sit over the top of dispenser when not needed, but if one of the pods is stuck at the bottom the tongs could be used to grab and pull out.... That may not be the best idea but it is all I got.
@chipferraioli13167 жыл бұрын
I'm really sorry for your loss. Also you should make a spring sort of plunger system for it to make the pods go down.

The pod coffee I use come loose in the big box of 80 kups. All I do is stand it on end and cut a hand size hole in the bottom of the side facing out. There are then all available with the help of gravity. If I wanted to (to make it look pretty) I could paint the outside of the box. What I usually do when I get a new box of them is lay the box I cut the opening in, on its back with the whole up. Then open up the new box fully and grab kups by the hand full and drop them into the hole (occasionally I will have to turn it so the whole is on the top and shake them up to make enough room to put the rest into.

Glad to read that, i never like the excesive waste they generate. I have a "traditional" coffe make machine with permanent plastic filter (so no paper filter needed, they always run out at the worst moment). On a side note, where i live, those pods are really expensive so is no-no for me.
