I am so happy to learn this technique! It is not new but I just couldn’t get it. I’m dyslexic so trying to understand something that has dimension from looking at drawings is hard. The way you explained it and modeled it, it all clicked with me I have knit for almost 50 years. I’m not bad but last night I was about to give up on an idea I was trying to make happen because I just didn’t think I would be able to finish in time. I have two little foster puppies, 8 week old, one lb Chihuahua sisters. They are going to meet some possible adopters this weekend. Being Chihuahuas they snuggle a lot. It keeps them warm. I decided to make some quick sweaters for them. Unfortunately, I got all involved picking out the right pattern, yarn of wool or alpaca that wouldn’t be too hard for someone to to take care of. I decided to skip the sweaters because I already have things to sew before Christmas. Then I did a search on KZbin for “sweaters, quick, cute small dog” and this pattern is perfect. And I will still have time to make masks, finish a quilt, an extra long mermaid tail and a bunch of gnomes. I just can’t believe I have finally learned this great way of using my circular needles where I used to hunt for the right dpns ! Thank you bunches and bunches.

I am using circular needles but not magic loop so I am a bit confused starting leg holes when you say to skip the first one and start on second one. Is it different just going round and round then using magic loop? Thank you so much if you answer this question for me. I appreciate your videos so much.
@BeginnersLUCKraft3 жыл бұрын
Ok, the reason why I said "skip the first one", because the begin marker was in the middle of the first leg which is dog's right leg hole. So just knit until the second leg (left leg) marker, and bind off, then come around the first one (because we are knitting in round), then you can bind off the right leg. do you know what i mean? But this is not important. You can start with right leg hole if you want! I hope you understand what I'm saying. Good luck!
@Me-ez3bx3 жыл бұрын
Oh I finally got it and started the leg holes then when I cast on stitches and went to the just knitting my cast on stitches were way too loose and I knew I messed up so I tried to go back and really messed up so I am going to start over. Thank you so much for your hrlpful advise and videos. You are amazing.
@BeginnersLUCKraft3 жыл бұрын
@@Me-ez3bx I don't know how loose it was, but usually very loose at first, but when you start knitting more rows, it should be fine. One thing you can do is, when you add new casts, make sure it's not too loose, but again, it will be loose in next 2 rows. Also next time, use the security line before you start doing leg hole. Then you don't have to start all over again. The security line is just adding the scrap yarn in 1 row with your tapestry needle. Even you make a mistake, you can always come back to the place where you add the security line without losing any stitches. I don't have a video for that, so here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4PGg3mEod2bnrs Good luck! Oh if you don't like loose leg hole, there is one more way to solve the problem, which is 1 row button hole technique 18:46 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZOwYXiQmLmDftE I used this technique sometimes.

I have one more question and I promise I won't bother you again. When you do the first decrease it looks like your doing it with some on one side of the start marker and the other on the other side like it was really another row. I am not wording this quite right but hope it makes sense. From the start marker to the stitch marker there is only 5 stitches so should I decrease there and then on the other side of the stitch marker again. I wish I could explain myself better. I tried with 16 inch circular and couldn’t get the technique of pulling out the cable, doesn’t seem to be enough cable. I cast on 46. Is yours the magic loop method? Could I just do it in the round?
@BeginnersLUCKraft3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment :) To answer your question, the technique I used, was the magic loop technique. The length of cable is people's preference. First of all, if you have many variety of circular cable, and right length, you don't need to use this magic loop technique, just knit in round. People don't usually have many choices, including me, so I must use the magic loop technique. I usually prefer to use the longer cable, but sometimes people say "tangle easily", so I used 16". If you have a right length of cable and are able to knit in round, just do it! If not, use the longer cable. Good luck and Enjoy knitting!

How do you know how to adjust? I’m making a sweater for my best friend but her dog isn’t the normal size. She’s between medium and large. I don’t know how much she weighs but I measured her in inches.
@BeginnersLUCKraft5 жыл бұрын
Hi Maggie, thank you for your question. You need to know the dog size such as measurement of around dog's neck (you don't want to choke a dog lol), measurement from bottom of neck to the top of legs, from leg to tummy (because you don't want to cover everything for pee), and the measurement from back of the bottom neck to dog's back. And also you need to know the dog's waist line to make sure the sweater is big enough for dog. So If you don't have any clue about that dog, it's very hard to knit, but once you know all these measurements, you should be able to knit. If you want me to help, let me know. If so, let's start telling me what kind of dog is this sweater for. Good luck and enjoy knitting!
@maggiemonroy82195 жыл бұрын
@@BeginnersLUCKraft I have the measurements but you still don't explain how to know how many stitches per inch. I made the neck but I think it's too big. Dog is a Boston Terrier 14" neck and chest is 25". From neck to top of leg is 4"
@BeginnersLUCKraft5 жыл бұрын
Can I ask the yarn & needle you're using? If you're using same as mine, and 14" Neck, probably i would start with Cast on 90. I don't take any gauge, and I have a dog with me, so I usually put the sweater on him to make sure it fits him. And Chest 25 is quite big compare to 14" neck, I will ask around :)

Do I need to adjust the size of the cable to fit my dog or will a 16 in be fine? I measured my dog right behind her front legs and she measures 18 inches
@BeginnersLUCKraft4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. To answer your question, the length of cable is your preference. You can use an exactly same length of cable as your dog size, but I prefer to use much longer cable and using a magic loop technique. It's easier to knit a small project like this for me. If your dog is bigger than cable length, it's fine, but you can't really make sure whether the project fits your dog or not. If you really want to make sure in the middle of knitting, you must transfer all the stitches to a scrap yarn. Do you know what I mean? Well if you only have 16" cable or shorter, you can knit it, this is my answer! Enjoy Knitting!

Any tips for a beginner making a 27inch shoulder to tail greyhound jumper? The chest shape is VERY different... ✌️♥️🏴🙏🙏🙏
@BeginnersLUCKraft4 жыл бұрын
Hi Cara, thank you for your comment. And I love challenging! OK, Greyhound! They have a huge chest compare to their neck and tummy, it's understandable, because they are racing dog, I believe they need the bigger lungs than others. Anyway, if I were you, I would like to use #5 yarn which is thicker yarn, so you can knit a lot faster, and once you make the leg openings, I probably keep increasing stitches until you hit the dog's biggest chest. Then I would decrease some stitches but not too many because the dog has such a big chest, you need a big opening to pull through that part as well. However if you keep knitting, it's going to be too huge around the tummy, so I probably split 2, then I try to wrap the bottom around the tummy like KIMONO (JAPANESE TRADITIONAL CLOTH). If you're beginner, you probably get confused, so I will try to make one for a sample :)

Hi thanks so much for the video I’m going to try it for my friends small to medium size dog :) the dog I’m knitting for is bigger than your 10 pound Yorkie based on neck size alone. If I am making this for a larger dog do I need to change the needle size or perhaps just the length of the circular join between needles?
@BeginnersLUCKraft4 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for your comment. To answer your question, my dog sweater is completely customize, so you can use any type of yarn and needle. If you will knit one for bigger than 10 lb, I would recommend you to use at least #4 DK yarn and 4.5 mm needle, because that way faster to finish it. The cable length is up to you, I don't have many shorter cable, so I usually use a longer one, this is just my preference. If you need more question, please let me know :) Enjoy knitting!
@joannahardie25644 жыл бұрын
Beginner's LUCKraft no that’s perfect thanks so much, just wanted to make sure I have enough room on the cable for when I’m knitting the torso part of the sweater :)

I am in a remote town but managed to find 5mm circular needles with matching yarn but the needles are tip to tip 43cm and the plastic cord only 22cm. My max round I have to knit will be 60cm. I started my cast on and tried to knit first row but I feel the cord needs to be longer. My apologies but do you have a recommendation if I need a longer cable? Knitting supplies are hard to find here! Many thanks!!!
@BeginnersLUCKraft4 жыл бұрын
@@joannahardie2564 Hi Joanna, I have an exactly same needle and cable, the max casts I made with these needle and cable are about 140 casts, which probably over 70 cm when you start knitting. Example my dog's sweater is about 35 cm with 70 casts, so about around 120 casts to 130 casts would be about 60 cm neck I believe. So I think you can knit this with your current cable and needle. How many cast do you think to start with? Let me know :)
@joannahardie25644 жыл бұрын
Beginner's LUCKraft thanks! My neck needs to be around 36 cm so I was thinking 72 cast ons. This I have started but perhaps I am just a beginner knitter and struggling?! I find it difficult to continue the first row of knit so I am concerned when I get to my max round size of the chest of the dog at 60cm. But should I just continue and be very careful with my stitches?
@yliberal63555 жыл бұрын
I was just wondering if you prefer to use bamboo circulars instead of metal ones? Every tutorial I’ve watched of yours (cuz I’m a subscriber) so far you’ve used Clover circulars. I want to invest in lasting quality interchangeable needles someday soon so that I too can become creative - lol! Btw - I absolutely love your designs and techniques!!!
@BeginnersLUCKraft5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment, and that is a good question! I want to know too! I've been using only this bamboo circular needle. I have some regular metal needle. When i bought a set of circular needle, I picked Clover one, because I am Japanese and this company is very big in Japan, Almost EVERYBODY uses! so I didn't really think about anything, haha. Lately when i see some metal ones, i really want to try them too! Anyway in my opinion about this bamboo, excellent! very smooth especially a cord, very flexible as well, a bit pricey though...

The strangest thing i keep unraveling and re do. For some reason I castes on 46 but after my first knit round i always end up with 45 but I use everything on the needle strange.
@BeginnersLUCKraft4 жыл бұрын
That's the strangest thing I've ever heard!!! After you noticed that there is only 45 instead of 46, did you knit 1 more around? The reason why I asked, because if you don't find the reason, you will keep making same mistake. The possibilities are "you drop stitch somewhere, most likely the first one?!", "you slip over other stitch" and so on. If I were you, I would knit slowly for 1 more round, and taking a good look every stitch to find out what was the cause. If you can't find anything......, wow scary.... lol Good luck, and let me know :)
