Great video, thanks! If you were to cut a ceramic tile and slide it in the bottom slot of the oven it would act like a baking stone and really even out the temperature of that oven. Probably eliminate the hot spots you're seeing.

Awesome knowledge. Today I press my first holster after months of reviewing all you Pioneers of the industry. Thank you so much for sharing 🖤👊😎

@danimal870 It shouldn't be tearing up your gun, at all really. When you make your mold, wrap your gun in masking tape. That will add a little dimension as well as prevent damage to the gun as you adjust the retention. Also, make sure to really clean the kydex before your rivet it together. Most damage is caused by grit and particles in the holster rubbing on the gun, not the holster itself.

just molded and cut my first attempt. ie sitting on a wood box on top of my foam lol came out nice, not the deffinition you are getting, & i got rid of the slopes by using an ove glove and a heat gun which i almost prefer out the gate but i will look into a better press and the vacume molding more. have you tried just using 400 and 600 grit on your belt sander? i think it will save you some time. i use the wet dry on my knives with 400 and six hundred to get a nice finish on the blades. oh yeah also used 400 grit on my belt sander and the edges are pretty smooth from band saw cuts. thanks again for all of the info. if i can get ahead on money ill see about doing up a leather hybrid and letting you guys nit pick it for me.

@PhillyEDC Thanks and just to finish .. Like I said, Kydex is rare here in Brazil and I have some leaves, I need to make sure not to spoil .. I also have a thermometer and electric oven. What is the proper temperature for a good job? believe it should be explained well in the video but I have difficulties with indioma .. Thanks again for your time and congratulations ..

Great video I will invest in a thermometer. Where can I get find the different blue and red gun molds as I'd like to make a few for some friends without using their guns as molds?
@slwslw0912 жыл бұрын
That was a good tip for you to put the foam on top of the oven....if you buy another second hand oven you could put both peices of foam on top.

Hello .. I'm from Brazil and would like to know what kind of foam material that mold .. I hope to get here easily, unlike the Kydex, quite rare, often requiring import .. Is there any other material capable of replacing the foam .. Thank you and congratulations on videos

hey love your videos they have really helped me with my kydex! with all the definition does it rub your gun raw? seems like the more def i get the more it wears on the firearm. is this just something i have to accept? thanks for your time!!

Does the Kydex throw off toxic fumes when heated? Does it leave a smell in the toaster oven making it unusable for food preparation after doing this?

@PBandHoneySammich If you can set your kiln to warm up slowly to the working temperature, it should be good. But, if you can't program it or control the temperature, it might not be a good choice.

Hello .. I was wondering about the type of foam that would be ideal for the production of the mold, but as I said is not a technique developed in Barsil and information are hard .. Well, I was thinking and use of EVA foam mats used in acedemias struggles and mouse pad in a layer compatible .. What do you think? thank you

On your first vid about good definition you had someone who wanted a holster for a pistol with a viridian c5L....Did you use the C5L in the making of the holster?
@robertjohn5276 жыл бұрын
Awesome video with lots of advice. Question, I notice the videos I've found on You Tube all use these plastic model guns to shape the Kydex. I need to make a shell for my Alien gear set of my Walther PPS M2 with a Crimson Trace. Do you recommend I use my actual gun or is there a risk of doing some damage to the polymer frame or laser, itself?
@teodbbld4 жыл бұрын

I'm planning to make my own holster, but I don't have a gun mold. Will it harm my gun using a foam press?
@PHLster4 жыл бұрын
Generally not. Make sure to keep an empty Mag in the gun and don’t overdo it with heat and pressure.
@DadHub4 жыл бұрын
@@PHLster Gotcha. I saw on another video that you can wrap the mags a few times with tape, I'll try that. And I have ratchet clamps, so I don't think I'll have to worry about too much pressure. Thanks a lot!

@MultiKakit 330-340 degrees Fahrenheit is a good working temperature. Heat it slowly so the Kydex doesn't warp or gloss.
@GR8SCOTT6 жыл бұрын
"Kydex technical breifs"? How about an actual website or address?
@MultiKakit If you visit knifekits.c o m and usaknifemaker.c o m you can find the foam. I don't know the exact specs of the foam or what could replace it. All I know is that it needs to be very firm. It's not soft like upholstery cushion foam or the soft foam in a gun or camera case. Its much more stiff than that.

You really don't want all that definition if you want to achieve a good draw. Too much drag. Block off the ejection port and controls. Really the only place you want retention is the trigger guard. Looks nice though!
