I purchased the items at Cash & Carry, a commercial food supply company that is open to the public. If you don't have a C&C in your area, look for a restaurant supply company in your area.

I would love to hear how it goes. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get the powder dried out.

For youth groups, do you know how much to make per person for an event? Did you divide it up for students? Thanks
@DanLivingston8 жыл бұрын
It depends on the types of games you want to play. I figure about a 1/4th pound per person at a minimum. This last time I actually did a 1/2 pound per person. To make it go further, I did some games where we put the powder in nylon stockings and made balls of powder. I purchased knee high stockings at Walmart and I put about 1 cup of powder in the bottom, tied two knots then put in more, tied two knots and then put in one final cup and tied a knot. I then cut them into separate pieces so they were individual balls of powder. We used those for a dodge ball game and a few others. It stores well, so make extra and go BIG!

Thanks, I have been toying with the idea, but amount was a big mystery! Great video.

how much food coloring did U use for 10 lbs? May I use powder food coloring?
@DanLivingston6 жыл бұрын
The concentration of the food coloring you get will be different than what I had. Just go way darker than you think you need. It dries much lighter. Mix some in, take a small amount and spread it out on the palm of your gloved hand, that will help you see the actual color you have.

Hi there! Do you remember about how many kids and how long 50lbs lasted?

any issues with the kids and clean up, for instance, hair, the venue? it looks great but someone's got to clean it up after and parents need to know how to prep for taking the kids home afterwards
@DanLivingston8 жыл бұрын
To clean up the kids we use an air compressor. That takes care of a lot of it. As far as the parking lot, a little rain and wind makes it all go away!

How much ratio of corn starch to water ??
@DanLivingston4 жыл бұрын
I just started adding as little as possible until I had the mixture saturated. I didn't really measure. Just remember everything you add has to come back out.

How can I make the mixture dry faster?
@DanLivingston6 жыл бұрын
I've used a Crock-Pot on low, or put it in the oven on warm. For the oven, I left the door open and I would often mix it up.

If it is dry and chunky, use a blender or food processor to turn it back into a powder.

How much water and corn starch needed
@DanLivingston6 жыл бұрын
Chyna Cruz this was using a 50 lb bag of cornstarch. Just add enough water to saturate the cornstarch. The more water you use, the easier it will be to mix, but longer to dry.
@MizARAZI8 жыл бұрын
If you use flour, you wont have the mixing issue that corn starch does. That is actually a science project on how corn starch can act like a solid when water is mixed in it. Your actually having to work harder than you need to to make this. Use a sifter to sift out the chunks to be blended without having to blend the whole batch.
@DanLivingston8 жыл бұрын
A large sifter would be great. Flower doesn't do the same thing as the corn starch though.

Dan Livingston I was thinking on doing this for Easter. I was also thinking on using flour why wouldn't it (flour) act the same? could you try it and show us the results? Thank you.

karla labrada flower is a much different consistency. You can also not color flour. you could try adding color to flour, but it won't be the same.

My powders were not that colorful when thrown in the air :( why? I used liquid food coloring just like yours added a large amount of food coloring, got the color that I wanted when in its in the drying process but when the finish product was thrown in the air, it wasn't that colorful.

Hey Dan. I am having a Paint War event at my youth ministry. Expecting to have about 50 kids so I want to have 50 lbs of paint powder. I went online and bought 25 lbs of Holi Powder and my plan was to mix that powder with flour. I saw some of your comments saying that flour was not good in this application. Do you think mixing the pre-made powder paint with flour would work? Let me know!
@DanLivingston7 жыл бұрын
Zachary Phillips I wouldn't do flower. Buying uncolored cornstarch would be a better idea. It would be interesting to see how it effects the overall quality of color you get. Flower won't act the same, AND you will have way more kids with possible allergy issues. I know kids that react to gluten if it gets on their skin.
@chunko41198 жыл бұрын
Are they hypoallergenic?
@DanLivingston8 жыл бұрын
Unless someone is allergic to corn, yes. I've never had an issue with someone breathing in too much powder, but I would imagine it is possible.

Mix it slowly with a 5 gallon bucket paint or mud mixer attached to a drill. That mixing process would have gone faster.
@DanLivingston5 жыл бұрын
I don't think a drill would be strong enough to handle the mixing. The faster the mixture moves the more solid it becomes.
