Hello, in this tutorial I show you how I made a log fairy house lamp using a plastic bottle, tin foil, paint, hot glue and paper clay. This is a great way to teach children about recycling and also stimulate their creativity and imagination.
I start by drawing the sketch of the house. I visualize how will the 2,5 liters plastic bottle fit in the design and draw the shape of the fairy house around it. After I have the sketch of the fairy house ready, I start cutting the plastic bottle in four pieces. Then I glue them together in place. Next step is to build the rest of the house using tin foil and hot glue. This is a fast way to achieve a basic volume that will be the base for our paper clay. Using tin foil I built the hill under the house, the tree bark, the chimney, the roof cones and a branch. I also designed some stairs in front of the door and two mushrooms as pillars on each side of the door. After I have the general shape of your fairy house I can start covering everything with paper clay. You should work in two layers, one for covering the surface and the second one for the details like windows, door, wood texture, bark, mushrooms, door steps. When making the windows keep in mind it will be a lamp so you should draw as many windows as you can so the light will come out nicely. After the paper clay is dry you can easily add more details like I did for some of the windows. Let everything dry. I used watercolors and acrylic paint for painting because I like working in layers and be able to change if I don't like the way it looks. In the end you can seal the paint using some matte spray varnish. I placed some battery LED lights under the house. I recommend you use soft lights that will gently illuminate your windows so it looks like a real house. DON'T USE HOT LIGHTS!

Frequently Asked Questions: 1. What clay do you use? I use a paper clay. I either buy it or make my own depending on what I want to create 2. What's the difference between the bought paper clay ( amzn.to/2r5FEHY ) and the homemade paper clay (A) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpy8eJl4r8SAirc (B) kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXbJXohslr94pas ? The homemade one is not that soft and is only good for textured surfaces like stones and tree bark. It is very cheap to make so it might worth to sand it and work it a little more than buying a paper clay. However, you can't keep it more than 5 to 7 days in the fridge. It has the best consistency when you just made it and it's fresh, so I would recommend you use it in the same day or the next and don't make more than you need 3. Can I use air dry clay? What's the difference between air dry clay and paper clay? Often times shops will sell both paper clay and ceramic clay with the same label "air dry clay". It's true, both are air hardening but there are quite a few differences: air dry clay(ceramic clay) is actually mud, natural clay, while paper clay is made with cellulose and other ingredients. Paper clay is stronger than air dry clay(ceramic clay). Air dry clay (ceramic clay) shrinks and the paper clay does not shrink. This is why paper clay is the better choice for my kind of projects. My projects usually require you to cover a jar or a plastic bottle. If the air dry clay shrinks and the bottle or jar remain the same size... you guessed it... your air dry clay will crack all around. It might be a lot cheaper but it's not what you need for these projects. 4. My clay cracks, how do you cover the cracks? You don't, you change your air dry clay to a paper clay! See why at the previous question 5. How to waterproof my paper clay creations? I recommend using a yacht varnish. Apply a few coats and make sure you cover it all around so no water touches your clay 6. What brand of paper clay do you use? I use "Das modelling material" - amzn.to/2r5FEHY 7. Where can I see the list of materials? As a general rule of my channel... READ MY VIDEO DESCRIPTIONS! I write it for you guys, is no secret what I use. For every video I write a description of what I do and what I use. 8. Do you sell your creations? No, not yet, my daughter loves them too much. 9. What colors do you use? I mostly use watercolors and acrylic paint.

Reading through the comment's seeing people stating your not getting credit for your creations. That is the way an Artist creates at first, more less in the shadows till they're name becomes larger then life to take off! Once these companies can no longer hide the Artist's design, because the public always wants to know more. So it's up to the people to call the Artist's work out to highlight their incredible work, and help get the standing they deserve. And as always your talent is extremely detailed, and so beautiful to watch! Thank you!

I can't begin to tell you how much Money you save me with these Projects! And that clay Recipe saved me some money too! I am an Artist that has never worked with Clay before, never thought I could do it! You gave me the the confidence to try! And your instruction videos are spot on! I'm sure it takes me much longer than it takes you, but im a work in progress! I have 5 grandkids and for Christmas I made them lamps for their rooms! The Castle, Log Fairy House, Stone and Wood Troll Houses, and the Garden Mushroom Gnomes! They Love them, they say its their favorite Christmas Present! Just wanted to Thank You! I'm working on this one now for my Sisters Birthday, after seeing the Grandkids lamps, now she wants one! I am sure she will love it! I see a lot of comments, on here, about how wonderful your work is! Just wanted to let you know that someone is actually making these Projects! And Again! Thank You!!! Keep them coming I will never have to buy a Present again! I send everybody I can to your Site! You Are An Excellent Artist! And Your Imagination Amazes Me!

Creative Mom has her own clay recipe on youtube Just go to Creative Mom/paper clay recipes on you tube and it works great the only difference that I do as i am in America is I had to convert it to cups and ounces, and I use wet joint compound, instead of dry! it's Great it doesnt crack and it goes on very smooth, and almost dries overnight I also use my kitchen aid to mix the toilet paper and glue, to a pulp, and then i mix the rest of the recipe by hand! To be honest I had to play with to get the right consistence, but hers is by far the best recipe on KZbin And the cost is probably 1/2 of buying from craft stores I make 5 gallon buckets at a time and it last a long time, I had mine last, like about a month, and it was the same consistence for the whole month, i have done a lot of her projects, Just make sure you keep it really covered up! I use a lot of it as I love Her work and am pretty much addicted to her You tube Channel! She is an amazing artist, and her videos real do make it easy!! Good Luck I am sure you will have a lot of fun with her videos, as do I and now my Grandkids Love to use her clay too! WE LOVE YOU! CREATIVE MOM!!!

This is so freaking awesome, like it is insane...... *DON'T* *SHOOT* *ME* *YET!* ...But I'm just wondering, if the top/side of the 2-liter soft-drink bottle could be opened up (and hot glued back down) at the top to have the inside finished with painted walls and clay floors (of course the floors be leveled out than clay applied) to be carved out and painted as if it was real wood..or or the floor could be made of some sticky paper or vinyl materials (I'm just shooting out ideas)... Have mini-miniature furniture to be spread around inside...you know like a set of table and chairs, a bed, things you would normally find in a studio apartment, have 3 or 4 pendant black cords LED lights hanging from the ceiling - like the old-fashioned single bulbs... With all of the walls, ceiling, floors, mini-miniature furniture, mini appliances (maybe) and the lighting.. This mini-house if it could be done, and if it was when you look through the small windows or the cracks in the walls of this Hobbit or Fairy's house, you would have thought you were actually looking through the windows of a actual Hobbit or Fairy house and the inside would almost match the outside... I do believe kids and adults alike would be so fascinated looking through the windows of this house...
