Best teacher ever. I’ve been sewing for almost 60 years and I’m still learning. You’re amazing.

Wow! I love the way that you showed and explained how to steam the dart area. I’ve never seen that before. It looks so professional, but also doable.

Love the serger thread hiding trick! I have always threaded them thru with an embroidery needle, which is fine, but this is so much quicker! Thanks!

Thanks so much! Yes, wool is especially lovely to work with because it can be steamed into shape.

Loved this idea! Just a thought, how about taking it one step further by adding 3 or 4 large matching buttons along the cross-over side? I think that would dress it up even more. Such a cute sweater. I have to try doing this. Thank you for another great tutorial.

So happy you popped up in my feed! No only os this a nice (of time-consuming) upcycle, it's a good way to try out how this style looks on you without shelling out big bucks for a ready to wear sweater or fabric and a pattern. You explain so well!

Awesome tutorial, Catherine! I learned a lot from you and I really enjoyed your cheerful and patient manner in explaining everything. I am in the process of upcycling an old stretch out women's cardigan into a wrap sweater (which should be much easier!) and this was really helpful. Thank you for sharing!

I love your relaxed measurements…”finger width, pinkie width”…😆LOL, makes up cycling encouraging and possible vs. requiring precision 😊
@CatherineSews2 жыл бұрын
Haha, right!? It's like how chefs add a pinch of this and a handful of that. There are times to be precise, and times when it's ok to just eyeball it!
@katie49969 ай бұрын
Would it be possible to do this with an oversized hoodie?
@lindaduffy83872 жыл бұрын
Wow, so AWESOME! I have narrow shoulders and garments most often drop off my shoulder point. Love how you just use a marker while wearing the garment you’re changing. Does the shoulder change you’re doing with this sweater work for cottons, etc?
@CatherineSews2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the lovely comment. Using the iron to reduce the fullness around the shoulder definitely works better with wools, but cotton knits will shrink in a bit as well.

Thank you for your lovely videos. I have been sewing many of my clothes for nearly 70 years 🙂 Still learning from you though. Nice new ideas. I have a question: what is the brand of your machine? And is it heavy?

Thanks for your lovely comment. My machine is a Babylock Sofia2. It's not too heavy.

Im back watching. May I ask what happened to the neck binding. I seemed to have missed what happened
@CatherineSews Жыл бұрын
Hi Dianne, at 2:50 I talk about how the cut edge isn't going to fray, so I didn't bind it at all! I just let it roll to the inside.

When you change a T-shirtneck from round to v neck, do you use a light interfacing to reduce mis-shaping the shirt?

Actually I know what you mean. When my students sew for the first time, it's terrifying to watch. It is a very tiny margin between totally in control and a giant OUCH!! In 16 years of teaching fashion and sewing, and probably 3000 students, it's happened 3 times that a student sewed their finger. Not pleasant, but none of them ever did it a second time!!
@jesshothersall Жыл бұрын
My late Auntie Frances once sewed her finger into the fabric, when she told me, it made me focus very carefully from then on, so I have her to thank for not having done it myself!
