You can use this sandal for all sorts of activities like hiking, trekking, walking, and even running! If the cord breaks, it's easily replaceable. You may never have to buy shoes again.

Nice video. Very to the point. With the rugged terrain version, you could put the plugs in the top side first before you contact cement the sole to sandwich the plug ends.

Came here to say this. Then you don’t have the plugs taking wear and tear.

Very creative and inspiring video! I want to do this but also add something to make them grounded like my earth runners

That's a fantastic idea, Gabriel. Initially, I planned to insert copper grommets however, I couldn't find those in my area. I would love to get a hold of those in the near future!

@@gratefuldoge8598 I've seen a video where they tested themselves with a Electric Tester and when they are properly grounded, it shows on the meter 0.00v. I'll try to find that video and link it here

I just wonder why you did the strap at the heel and not a simpler Version like a flipflop. Also It would have made a lot of sense to place the small loops within those two layers you glued together. In that case you wont walk on the melted "fixing" and wear it down. I really like the idea on making my own sandals. Maybe I should try and maybe I will use a leather insole just for comfort and looks. Thx a lot for creating this Video. Cheers, Mike

Leather would also be better for the "grounding"

If you walk uphill or climb a ladder, you can slip out of shoes without a backstrap. It's a common cause of accidents during the summer months, when home owners walk around in flip flops and suddenly get the idea to "finally fix that thing on the roof". I highly recommend a backstrap. 100% agree on the loop between the layers.

I know I'm a bit late here, but flip flops are actually really really terrible for your feet. Because there's no heel support, the toes constantly work to keep the shoe on your foot, which is tough on the tendons on the underside of the toe and foot. It can lead to weakness in some of the muscles in the foot and tighness in others, causing problems like tendonitis, hammer toe and mallet toe to name a few. These deformities can be crippling if left untreated. Foot issues are one of the major causes of back pain, which is a super common issue for most adults because honestly, most of the shoes we wear are bad for our feet. This kind of shoe, with no arch support that's basically just a layer of protection between your foot and things on the ground that could cut or scrape your skin is one of the healthier things you can put on your feet. plenty of room for metatarsal splay and it doesn't lock your foot in one position so that your foot's muscles stay well developed.

If you add a third piece of foam between the insole (where your foot sits) and the outsole (the part that touches the ground), and cut small holes in the sandwiched foam where the paracord knots are, it will make the shoes a lot more comfortable.

Huaraches! Any leads on locally-produced ones?
@EthicalJuan

Jerson, I've encountered several shoe stores in Olongapo City who produces custom made huaraches. Although they sell very thick soled sandals. My suggestion is visit some shoe repair/supplies, they probably have the resources in this video tutorial. Thanks for watching! ;)

I’d prefer just making like socks out of suede they are great but not for beginners they just keep your foot from being cut so unless your good with walking barefoot it may be uncomfortable so this is better for beginners

Is it uncomfortable to wear?
@EthicalJuan
@EthicalJuan 4 жыл бұрын
If it's you're first time and you've had your foot in a cast (shoes) for several decades now, yes. However, it'll just take consistent wearing for your foot to adapt to it. Your foot will be ok in no time. I've worn this kind of thin-soled shoes for about two months now, it's super comfortable to wear. I use this for walking, running, and hiking and I have no problem with it whatsoever.

Replying to give you an update on the product I linked to... It seems like it's too stiff, despite some of the reviews saying people used it to make minimalist sandals. Maybe there's something softer, or thinner that would work better.
