I used a paint strainer insert that sits on top of the bucket. They sell them at ACE Hardware. Didn’t have a drill to make the holes in the bucket.

Genius! Thank you. I was thinking of landscape fabric aka weed barrier right before you mentioned the cheese cloth and maybe a small wire waste basket. Everything can be found at a home improvement store or Walmart.

Very good video. Nicely done presentation (guessing father / son) with complete explanations, decent camera work and a variety of solutions (the cheesecloth was a sharp idea) plus demonstration. Thanks for sharing. While I don't think I need a bucket for my use, I gained some great ideas for a smaller version.

I would use metal pails, but this works, I fill ladies nylons, hang half way down a 5 gallon pail, had a window leak in my truck , got about gallon water out , in 2 weeks, no wet smell left.

Ya that's a great idea, I don't wear nylons so I didn't have any at the time. Seriously though, really good idea and will pick some nylons for this season.

Some of the silica gels are made/used to dry and re-use (or they say reactivate). Have you tried drying and re-using the Calcium Chloride, or simply not worth the trouble?
@josholin312 жыл бұрын
You can evaporate the water it absorbs. But I wouldn't let it boil or become solid. No boiling is because I'm not sure if it can become another chemical if overheated. I just know it can be heated to an extent. (You could probably evaporate it if placed in a black tote left in the sun. - would need to have a small hole on the higher sides, so the moisture would have somewhere to go.) Not allowing it to become solid is because it could crack/pop under heat. And it's not something you want to inhale or in your eyes. Powder/residue is also best avoided because it's like a dust. But a high concentrated liquid of it is about as effective. Especially if you can figure out how to maximize surface area. And it's safer to use a fan when it's in liquid form. (If you have access to a small amount of electricity.)

What were the tubes you used to push through the side of the buckets? Also, could you not balance on the bucket rather than holes so the bucket isn't ruined?
@Texaca Жыл бұрын
... they look like extruded aluminum tubing from a local hardware store, or scrap metal they found 🤔

Hi, good idea!! Wondering what those black buckets with the holes are from? I’d like to make this.

Those little black ones are the commercial versions but they are too small for many applications and need constant refilling. I think they are made by Drizair

The crystals u use don't freeze do they?
@Dawseyandsons4 жыл бұрын
They do clump up but not exactly freeze. The humidity in the air actually goes down in the winter a fair bit and the water in the crystals drops through to the bottom of the bucket it doesn't really stay in them.
@melindamarie61394 жыл бұрын
Mine r like frozen solid nothing moves when i shake them!! It's not freezing, i live in my van n I'm fine) i don't get it!!! Thought i had it figured out smh ugh!! I also live in a VERY humid state!
@Dawseyandsons4 жыл бұрын
Not sure I totally understand what you mean but I think you are saying they are clumping up. If so that's good, the salts and other ingredients are absorbing moisture and sticking together. If they are taking through the holes then you will need to either out smaller holes or a layer of cheesecloth so only water falls through. Hope that helps.
@melindamarie61394 жыл бұрын
Well i used them over the summer n the water filed up in the bottom n i tossed em as stated. Now seems like the water hit the balls which then froze n now NO water will travel thru it is just a hard clump it's not working no water in bottom either.
