This gives me a lot of hope! I'm totally clueless to the electronic side of Motion sim. But what sounds like you, I could not see spending the money. Then I ran across a DOF reality 3 dof control box fo r $50 on Ebay, no cords, or anything came with it other than a a black box with the electronics in it. I then hoped that used $50 wheel chair motors would work, they happen to be the same ones I see your video! anyway my rotary sensors should arrive any day. Wanted to have all the parts before I started to cut and weld. Not sure what the black box has programed or even how to access it yet. Your videos have given me a lot of needed direction. For this I thank you!

@@DMAX_DIY Yes, all the parts in this video are the same model numbers, except 3x's. Only There is one more part. This is the "unknown" part to me? also it lacks the two external fans shown in this video There only internal fans in the 3 power supplies, I Will keep at watch on temps. I believe the video said supplies output 14.8 amps. With 24 volts, this may be all that is needed. I will start with a 15amp fuse after hearing that. The unit does power up. The DC power supply plugs used for the motors from the unit only use 2 prongs(+ -) , the third has nothing attached and not used. Then the "data" plug mentioned has the three needed prongs, + - and communication. I just need to check that the power output is 5v form the power supplies to the rotary sensors I purchased. I do believe the arduino is already set up as you mentioned. I paid the $50 or something close for DOF reality program needed from Sims racing. Hopefully I will find time to mock up a motor with a rotary sensor, likely use the tuning program I saw you use for my attempt of some type of controlled movement. I dont see how I can upload a pic to show the unknown part. I still understand the lack of fuses inside the unit. I guess I should also 5a fuse the rotary sensors.

Hello, I have a small problem with the DIY motion platform 2 dof. Everything is fine in SMC 3, the blue line matches the green one (pot 80T & 36T gear) , everything works fine in sim tools, roll, pitch and surge are fine. After connecting the motors (PGSaw 200Watts) to the electricity, the platform adjusts nicely to the level and here is the problem when I sit on the chair, the platform tilts as if the motors do not hold the platform. I also plan to add springs. The question is why the arms of the motors lower even with minimal load (I press lightly with my hand).

What position do you place the motor arms in when you boot up? Level to the floor? Does it consider that start position 'home'? I feel I should start the motor at 3-clock, but they jump to 1 o'clock which makes them sometimes try to go over the top.
@garymarma60052 жыл бұрын
Did you make the rotary u shaped arms that are connected to the motor shaft and the tie rod? ( arm has a key cut in it) If you purchased them where did you find them? I can weld up the piece, I have no way to make that bend. also would like good key cut in the arm. Maybe easier and tighter to purchase one if able.
@DMAX_DIY2 жыл бұрын
I just found the metal bent that way.. If I had to do it again, I could have made them out of two pieces of flat steel and weld them together. That way you dont need to bend them.. just lay them on top of each other.. Making the keyhole would be easier this way cause it took a while to file out And although I like the keyhole idea, it does wiggle a little bit.. I am not really into saving or reselling the parts so i would probably just weld the arm righ to the motor shaft. I did that out of necessity on my 3DOF.. kept snapping of the retaining bolts ..

Dave, I've got the same Jazzy wheelchair motors. Triple checked all boards and wiring. Motors run fine with simple arduino script (e.g. analogWrite(r_pwm, power); but when I run the SMC3.ino and then the SMC3 tools (v2.6), the motors just 'cluck' shift forward/back rapidly with no movement. What needs to be set in the arduino script? I'm setting MODE2 and have tried both POT_SCALING settings. I bought all the same boards and pots. Thanks!
@DMAX_DIY8 ай бұрын
good question. let's talk about SMC3.exe for a minute first. so the motors move correctly when you are running smc3.exe and are on manual control? how about if you put it on 'motion' or 'square' or 'sine wave'? I need to know how they react when only running the smc3.. I dont think anything else is required in the code other than to put them in mode 2. - let me know Dave
@72Pantera3518 ай бұрын
@@DMAX_DIY the .ino code says you must define either ENABLE_POT_SCALING or ENABLE_NON_LINEAR_POT_SCALING. I've tried both. Makes me wonder if I have the right sketch. (smc3-arduino-3dof-motor-driver-and-windows-utilities.4957). I rewatched your video and turned off both POT_SCALING defines. With sine wave, I now have Motor1 tracking but it tracks smooth down the hill, but 'clucks' up the hill. For Motor2 the green line drops to floor and stays there. As I turn up PWMMax, at about 120 Motor2 violently 'clucks' - jumps back and forth into forward/reverse. Video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3iygIKNr8SneZI

So how do you know what converters you need ? I got some jazzy chair motors but there bigger than these ones 3/4 shaft . 12-36v operating range . How do you choose the Amps and wattage when buying a converter ? . Would bigger converters be better ? Maybe something closer to the max amp for ibt-2 around 40 ? the I was planing on making a 3dof. Thanks . Just don't want to mess to much up haha .
@DMAX_DIY2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. Good point. This is my first time using converters so I went on x-simulator.net and saw what other people were using successfully. I just ordered those.. So if your motors can handle 36volts you will want to try and get converters that supply 36volts or your motor will run slower from what I understand..My motors say 24v on them so I chose 24 volt with 25 amp output.. I've tested them to about 24 amps and they did not blow so I have them fused at 20 amps right now. I'll be doing some more testing this weekend and hope to get it on video.

And I use IBT-2 motor drivers. Do you have any idea what the problem could be?My question is is it very important which Angle Sens you use? I hope for more nice videos from you and thank you in advance. Greetings Tony.
@DMAX_DIY2 жыл бұрын
Good question and thanks for asking. I would start with the settings in SMC3.. If you can see the green line move when you manipulate the pots then at least the arduino is talking and you have the com port set correctly. Try reading this section on x-simulator.net and set your software similarly.. here is a quick breakdown. Disconnect the motor power supply Make sure Simtools is not running - we’re not ready for that yet! Wire up the Arduino (with SMC3 installed) to your H-Bridges and connect to your computer via USB Run the Windows SMC3 Utility software and make sure it communicates with the Arduino (There is no need to set baud rates, they are not configurable) Set the Kp, Ki, Kd, PWMmin, PWMmax, PWMrev to 0 for ALL motors (This will make sure the motors don’t move) Set Clip to 255 (you need to do this first) and Limit to 255 (This will give you plenty of margin if something goes wrong while setting up) Turn on the power to your motors - nothing should move at this stage! Set Kp to about 400 Now slowly, increase PWMmax… at some point the motor should start to move. When it does check the “Green” feedback line is moving toward the “Blue” target position. If it is then that motor and feedback is wired correctly - proceed to test other motors. If it is moving away turn off motor power immediately (or quickly reduce PWMmax again). In this case you need to either reverse the wires to the motor being tested -OR- reverse the +5V and GND wires to your feedback pot for the motor being tested (do not do both). Restart the test from the beginning. Do the above for each motor more can be found at this link: www.xsimulator.net/community/threads/smc3-arduino-3dof-motor-driver-and-windows-utilities.4957/ hope that gets it moving.. Dave

is it a normal cnc card you control the simulator with? or is it a special card? how do you get it to connect with a racing game?
@DMAX_DIY Жыл бұрын
it's an arduino uno R3 version - about 20-30 bucks. The arduino will control the IBT motor controllers - Arduino can control up to 3 motors. The software is called simtools (I have some videos on that too). The code is free to download for the ardunio.. Simtools reads the game output telemetry and sends info to the arduino, which controls the motors. Dave

Good question Trevor.. I dont know for sure.. Maybe cause all you need to do it get a voltage position for the motor shaft. I just followed the advice of many on the xsimulator.net forum.. Path of least resistance.. I now have 8 of those 180 degree hall effect pots.. ALso plan on doing a test between wirewound 10k pot and the hall effect. Cool thing with the hall effect is as follows: so the motor will only really be operating at a range of 180 or less. the hall effect 180 has a sweet spot of 180 degrees, but it can spin around indefinately.. so if somehow the motor goes crazy, the pot will just spin with no damage. the wirewound 10k will probably just break off if the motor goes crazy.. FYI i have not had the motors do anything like that.. but there is a possiblity. Dave

@@DMAX_DIY Thank you for your videos. I installed itb-2 and started playing with smc3. some settings are not really clear at the moment... I followed the tutorial on xSimulator but some parameters are still unclear for me, such as fpwm for example... did you find more details?

Thank you Gary! I appreciate it. Hope this is helping out! I just got my extra 3 motors today.. Going to attempt to make a 6 DOF stewart platform. The extra motors are the 50:1 12 volt crab pot motors.. so I'm hoping they are strong enough but I dont know.. I'll give it a shot and post it up for you guys.. Dave
