DIY Motorcycle game controller

Short presentation of the M302 force feedback controller I made for the simulator GPbikes
Running in “hardcore mode” with no aids. The steering is direct, so if I turn the bars left, the virtual rider tries to do the same = Countersteering!

I really like how you dip the bike into a corner by counter steering. This is probably the best motorbike ffb controller I have seen so far, good job. Does it feel somewhat like driving a bike?

Thank you, I appreciate it! Being what it is, I’d say it comes pretty close! Wind, g-forces and the real sense of speed is not there of course (yet ;) ).

It is actually a hoverboard motor. I drive it with a b-g432b-esc1 powered by an old computer psu and the ffb unit is an MMOS stm32.

@@elbowsout6301, it is force feedback. The sim GPbikes does have this as a feature, but the code has been a little bit broken the last few updates. Hoping for improvement soon.

Hi Chris Beeves, great Video! I am about to make something similar. But for Car Racing. So the standart FFB. But for the love of god i can't find a somewhat accessable "tutorial" for SimRacer-Newbies. I am pretty ok with electronics and stuff and did/do quiet a lot of DIY Projects. Can u just quickly answer one short question? I have an Arduino Uno, (some Nanos). I bought an Encoder and will buy a second hand Hoverboard. So i will have 2 Motors. Also have some Hobby-grade FPV-Drone ESC's which can handle up to 35A at 24 Volts. What else do i need to get this working? Do i need this STM Board or an ODrive or something similar? I hope you can help because after 4 Hours of research i didn't come to a conclusion :/ Thank you very much in advance!

Hello! There is plenty of projects and tutorials on building wheels on xsimulator.net , have a look in the "DIY peripherals" and "Direct drive wheels" sections. I wouldn't use the uno, nanos or DroneESC for ffb. The hoverboard , an encoder and an Odrive running "github.com/o-devices/bldc-ffb-wheel" will get you a long way.

Hey Joe! Thanks! The parts for this one were scavenged from bicycles, hoverboards and electric scooters. If I remember correctly I printed the hall sensor throttle myself. The electronics were an stm esc together with a stmf407 running MMOS firmware (or EMC, used both). The simulator software is GPbikes.

Furious, yeah I think it will make a nice combination! No, not open source unfortunately. The ffb controller FW is free and available for download but the motor driver fw is custom made, by the author, for each motor setup so far.

Nice work, looks like you are counter steering. Smooth out your inputs, use less steering correction. Instead adjust your throttle in the turn. Increase throttle if you are turning too tight (bike will stand up more), let off the throttle to lean the bike over more and maintain your line. Tweaking the bars too much on a real bike could cause a crash.

Thanks! Yeah, it’s a countersteering solution. What it isn’t is a demonstration of supreme driving techniques. 😂 I do a lot of track riding irl so I have an idea of how it should be done, but this generation of controller was not very easy to use real riding techniques on. The steering wouldn’t move that much irl.

That's very cool. But isn't there one on which to steer you lean the handlebar left and right instead of turn it?

Yeah, iasystems makes a swivel type controller but that really is something different. Also the Thrustmaster freestyler had the possibility to lean the handlebars. I like this way better :)

Only in GP-Bikes. No other game that I know of supports countersteering.

@@user-hi4bt6bl8i the hand controls are bicycle parts. The clutch side has a small magnet on the lever and a hall sensor in the housing. The brake uses the wire leading to a load cell. The throttle is an ‘off the shelf’ domino e-throttle. Most of the other parts are 3d-printed.

Not really. Countersteering and reverse steering are two very different things.
