Of course, it can be used on PU leather, but the only concern is that the sewing machine you have must be capable of sewing thick leather sheets.

You can make the bag just 1 bias. 3 of wrong side stich, 1 with bias

It is quite early when she sews it on the right side, later the raw edge disappears in the construction, when she cuts the 8x7cm corners.

Yes it was attached like a small pocket but the finished bag showed a different one. So I think the cut should be 38x18cm.

The side gussets account for the difference between the pocket size vs. the back piece before gussets are sewn.

That measurement is correct. When you look at the video, you might think it's small, but when you do it by following step on my video, you'll find it's just right.

Many bags of this style use bias tape to finish the inside as she did. You could sew a French seam if preferred. That's not as common because it needs a larger seam allowance and can be bulky.
