I'm so glad that you still have all your fingers. The footage of your fingers going past the blade with that bulky sweater on was thrilling. One of the scariest videos I've seen in some time. BTW, the table looks great!

Oh trust me Dale my fingers are covered in scars from working on projects like this (they are all still attached right now lol) I know that im not safe with this stuff at all but i really dislike using push sticks even though its the safer option and if i end up loosing a finger or 2 at least ill get the footage on cam right. :) Glad that you enjoyed the end result.

Thanks John. I have always loved the look of denim micarta. It worked well and still looks as good today as when this table was first made a few years back.

I like the idea of using denim like that, subtle and unique.

Thank you. I just felt it was a nice way of honouring the sewing machine base by using some fabric in the top itself.

Cool project like the use of the denim between the wood it really makes it pop, good job.

Thanks wood 4 nothing. Yeah adding just a little something between the slats makes your eye see and appreciate the details, knots and imperfections of each one rather than looking at it as a hole. I enjoy your owl and spirit calving videos by the way...... I would love to see a bit more of the calving process, why not film a little as you work and then edit it in around the photos?

Absolutely brilliant and a very innovative use of differing materials. Of the two I prefer the fabric mix but both are good. I am just about to start a table with red Cherry and white maple I think I will use a black fabric in a simular way to the project that you have just done.

Thank you very much Arablecroket. Its nice to see that someone has been able to pick up an idea from one of my simple builds. I like the sound of mixing the red cherry and white maple a lot, I hope that it turns out to be a successful project for you.

Thanks Henry Yeah that power loader is a great little collectable, just need to find myself a "vintage" Ripley figure to sit in it and then It will be able to help me with my projects. "What is my my purpose?" "You pass wood glue" "Oh god......."

Looks awesome bro, I love your use of fabric in amongst the wood. You deserve a better equipped workshop, if you've ever doubted the validity of investing in your ability and creativity then doubt no more!
@dsnerv
@dsnerv 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the support and kind words OMBW. Sometimes I would love to have a fully equipped workshop to help me create my projects but at the same time I like to keep my videos as simple as possible. I think it makes all my builds feel more relatable and achievable to other weekend warriors such as myself that just don't have the money or space for things like that. Not to mention the fact that I would need to find people willing to purchase some of my builds to fund it all hahaha. Once again thanks for the nice comment. (I enjoyed your blue gum slab video)

Thanks Jamie. I think that I agree with you about picking the micata table. At first I really was not sure of how well it would look once oiled and polished but as you said it has a simplicity about it that I like.

How long after you used the raw linseed oil and teak oil mix did you wait until you used the spray varnish. I used boiled linseed oil on a couple of tables and put a Matt clear varnish over them after about a week and the tops became sticky to touch.
@dsnerv
@dsnerv 3 жыл бұрын
From memory I didn't wait over a week before using the spray varnish. I was careful to make sure that there was absolutely no residue from the oil before adding the spray and had no issues at all

I am sure that a decent crotch wood top will work very well for the sewing machine base. Good luck with the project OVOM.

Привет. Идея хорошая, но ты не думал, что с эпоксидной смолой микарта прочнее получилась бы?
@dsnerv
@dsnerv 8 жыл бұрын
Yes using epoxy resin to make the micata would have been stronger but I did not have enough in stock for the project. The support beams under the table top add a lot of strength so I am not worried about it breaking at all.

Great video. I have an old singer sewing machine sitting in my basement that my wife told me I'm not allowed to sell or throw it away. (Not that actually would throw it away!) but doing something like this would be a perfect surprise for her! Did you use oak stock or was it something else? Beautiful work!
@dsnerv
@dsnerv 8 жыл бұрын
Hey Bryan. I have always loved the look of these old singer bases and it does not take to much work to turn them into a really attractive table. The oak I used in both my singer table projects was just some low grade stock. (for me I like wood with a little more personality and I have found that you get more of that with the lower grade woods) Good luck with the project mate. I am sure that your wife will love the surprise.

@@dsnerv Table saw is bad enough but pushing a board through that jointer that way, says you don't really understand what can happen or how fast. Hopefully you look into it a bit. Experience is a cruel teacher. I don't recommend that rout. Tends to be life changing and permanent
@dsnerv
@dsnerv 2 жыл бұрын
@@designcreationswoodworking963 despite how it looks and am well aware of how quickly things can go bad and how life effecting those damages can be. At the same time I'm a lot more happy working the way I do and not being overly safety concerned. I relate it to someone that chooses to ride a motorbike over driving a car.... obviously a lot more dangerous with life threatening results if something goes wrong but they enjoy it more so that's how they choose to live.
