The fumoto oil valve is such a time saver. No more catching the plug before it drops in the pan, hot oil running down your hands, replacing washers, and you don't even need the oil pan if you have the valve w/ the nipple extension and hose. You can just route it straight to a bottle.

You can also poke a hole in the top of the filter, using a screwdriver or punch. This allows atmospheric pressure to allow the oil in the filter to drain down and prevents making a mess. I’ve never had this issue on my WRX, but used to do that all the time on my FB3 RX-7.

Quick note for first-time DIY oil change folks: when Kevin says to dispose of your used oil responsibly, here's a suggestion. You can often get rid of it for free at many auto parts stores. Some counties and municipalities may also have household chemical collection facilities where you can take your used automotive fluids.

Just a note as I just did my first change on my WRX last weekend: - the bore of the plug is surprisingly larger than i thought and i had oil flowing out super fast. Don't use one of those closed top style drain pans. it won't keep up with the oil flow. +1 on the fumoto valve. I installed one when I put everything back together.

Ryan Scherer there are already vents to allow smooth flow into the tank. The main opening just isn’t large enough. Either way, using the valve with hose solves the problem anyway.
@ryanscherer65465 жыл бұрын
Parker Portlock I know the opening isn’t big enough, hence my drill out comment lol. I don’t mean find the biggest drill bit you can and send it. Just a step or two up from however big the opening is and it will work flawlessly. That’s what I did and I love being able to store a few oil changes until I can go dispose of it. I would like the drain valve though, I’ve heard nothing bad about them.

No you cannot use "any oil." There are oils that are not good for the FA20DITs and will void the warranty. Like you can never use Mobile 1 in a FA20DIT. Use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or the OEM Subaru oil.
@SubiSpeed5 жыл бұрын
Where in the video was it said that you can use "any oil"? Kevin even states that you should do your own research and figure out what oil will work best for your application. There are plenty of people running tons of different oils, including Mobil 1, with no problems whatsoever and good UOAs to show for it as well. So the only way you're going to void your warranty in this case is to either not change your oil or use oil that is not up to the standards shown in the manual.
@SubiSpeed5 жыл бұрын
Again, you're missing the part where it's stated you should do your own research and figure out what oil will work best for your application 🙂 It's pretty simple really, all the information can be found in the owners manual.
@Hypn0s25 жыл бұрын
@@SubiSpeed I'm only saying this out of concern for misinformation that may lead people to void their warranty or possible damage their FA engines. "As long as you are changing your oil with the correct filter and weight" You cannot just put any 5w30 oil into a FA20DIT. Just one thread for more information: forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2687656 I suggest OEM Subaru oil or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.
@Hypn0s25 жыл бұрын
@@SubiSpeed 31 seconds into the video. "As long as you are using the correct oil filter and correct weight oil you will not run into any issues"
@SubiSpeed5 жыл бұрын
Use your common sense. The owners manual calls for a 5w30 oil that meets certain specifications. If you're using one of those oils, you are not going to "void your warranty" and are likely not going to run into issues. If someone doesn't understand this, they're better off taking their car to the dealership and they probably aren't interested in changing their own oil.
