I hope you never have to replace your garage door track - that would be a pain with how you framed around it.

TIP: Impact driver with nut driver hex socket... turns those u-bolt clamps up in seconds.

Seems like a ton of weight to be distributed along just one joist left to right as you face the door esp if that joist is a truss piece. I wanted to do it like this initially but it’s def a stressor. I opted to go along the sides of the garage so as to even out the weight amongst four joists. Hope it worked out dude.

Yes sir, it works just fine. My joists are 2 by 10s, no weight issues at all. I actually do chin ups on the fully loaded shelf, which adds an extra 200bls.

@@aaronknowsdiy2220 2x10 in the garage? Well made. Mine are 2x4.

@@aaronknowsdiy2220 You think it's fine. Come back in 5 years when your roof starts sagging. The area above your garage isn't designed to support a lot of weight.

Hey thanks for the info. I appreciate your advice. Have a great day!

The middle drop down supporting member I get but the two sides? Why didn’t you just tie in to the wall studs or ceiling to wall (corner) trusse/joist?. Would that not make the installed Loft-Shelf less obstructive?.
@aaronknowsdiy22202 жыл бұрын
You are correct that I have 1 foot unused on both sides. I have an 18ft wide garage and I'm using 16ft, the width of the two full pieces of plywood, it kept I simple. Good idea, however.

Turnbuckles would have been easier to work with than the cable.

You're right, I should look into them next time.

How did you attach the down members to the joists without making additional holes to get to the screws?

@@aaronknowsdiy2220 Let me get this straight..... you put several huge holes in your drywall instead of putting a couple screw holes in your drywall?
@AP-nb6og3 жыл бұрын
@@aarondrossart6026 enjoyed the video but I missed this also. I'm new to wood-working and I haven't seen anyone else cutting holes to access the ceiling joists. I like the idea but I'm unsure of how I would secure the down-member to the joist. Are you using Kreg pocket holes to do so? thanks!
@aaronknowsdiy22203 жыл бұрын
From the attic..the down members insert up into the attic about 8" and are attached with 5 screws each.
@aaronknowsdiy22203 жыл бұрын
Correct, I wanted to use about 5 screws each to securely attach the down member to the joist directly, not a butt joint through the drywall.
