I've done similar curtains before and used electrical conduit pipe instead of a rod. It's very strong and cheaper. Might work for you for longer runs.

This is an amazing idea! I knew there had to be something cheaper for my project. For my tab top curtains throughout the house, I used wooden closet rail and saved a fortune!

We used drop clothes too but we made curtain rods from pvc pipe it worked great we did have to add like another hook or whatever in the middle just to be sure the rod was strong enough and you can paint the pvc pipe to match your decor

Hey ya'll! I'm sure you have seen this before, but I wanted to share with you, how I put up my DIY drop cloth curtains. I have been wanting to do this for a couple of years now and I finally did it....not without some bumps of course. I mean, do my videos ever go flawlessly? Heck no! So, take my mistakes as a learning experience. I really try to stay on a budget and spend the least amount of money that I can, but sometimes that backfires lol. This result will work for now, but at some point, I will get nicer and sturdier curtain rods so that it extends the entire area. Stay tuned for more patio decor ideas! Great job an alternative is to use piping from the home depot it has connectors so you can add length and they are sturdy. I'm not sure but I think it's the piped for the electrical wires. I used it on my overhang and it works perfectly.

I've read that they make terrible outdoor curtains. They are designed to soak up moisture, sooo mildew is coming. I'm going to make some from sun sails! 16' x 16' for $30. I have not researched the fabric, but they are intended to be outside. Same concept as a dropcloth.
@mitchscroggins13276 жыл бұрын
Mitchalisia Hi. You did great ! I've seen other people making these curtains, & yours turned out excellent ! You should secure them with sturdy tiebacks in case of high winds & storms. The porch looked awesome with the curtains & lights, very cozy ! You know you could even attache window screening behind the curtains if you ever wanted too, the screening is not too expensive & helps keep the mosquito's & moths etc... out. The screening can just be stapled into place. Beautiful project, thanks for sharing ! Milani is growing, she's adorable ! 💖😊🌼🌻🌷🌼 Also you find good quality material shower curtains lots of times on clearance at different stores, when you see them buy a few that match & you can use them same as the drop cloths, they have different sizes/ lengths, so be sure & check for that. You can also make cushion covers & throw pillows out of them for your patio furniture, & it's way less expensive than buying yards of material !

I used galvanized conduit pipes...super sturdy and weather proof so the rods can stay out full time. I just mounted them on big "J" hooks.
@jamifleming41736 жыл бұрын
You could also go to home improvement store and get PVC pipe (cheep) spray paint and hang with the "c" shaped pipe anchors. If your fabric clips have a hard time staying attached put a little stich in them to keep fabric in place. In culinary school we would use the PVC pipe for rolling out fondant. Great little invention 😉

I saw another you tube subscriber and she used conduit to make her curtain rods and for the end piece used what she had on hand I think it was hardware for cabinets the knobs. I think conduit looks sharp and the price isn't bad. Its an option if you change your mind. I like the drop cloth idea especially when the heat is intense like it is in the Ca desert.

Araceli, you might look into galvanized plumbing pipes instead of regular curtain rods. They're a lot sturdier, & practically the same cost as curtain rods. Love this DIY!
@AraceliChanDIY6 жыл бұрын
esterixis i was looking for those when I went to Lowe’s and all I saw was plastic pvc!
@esterixis6 жыл бұрын
Araceli Chan I'm in metro Phoenix, so may be that yours stocks based on popularity? Mine has plenty, just a few feet down from the PVC. I spray painted mine with oil-rubbed bronze & they look great! Good luck finding the pipe; they've held up well during our high wind monsoon seasons.
@alandrahubbard76616 жыл бұрын
Yes, use the galvanized plumbing pipes. There are sturdier and cheaper. That is we used.
@jimenaguadalupecvega70845 жыл бұрын
I think the best option is copper pipes .because galvanized is to heavy .and copper looks nice .
@LifeLostSoul5 жыл бұрын
@@AraceliChanDIY You can also use PVC pipe as curtain rods and just spray paint them for desired color. Metal pipe is ridiculously expensive compared to what people are normally trying to substitute for. It's an option if you want that particular look but not a cheaper option.
@kimcwilkins55345 жыл бұрын
Good job. Full of the curtain rods go to IKEA and get the metal poles that are for the curtain rods they like five bucks and they're very heavy and sturdy and they will hold the canvas. It really came out pretty

Beautiful!! I LOVE how that turned out!! We have an enclosed back porch, we live in a 1950 bungalow, the porch has those crank out windows, (ugly) and the sun just blasts the porch from early afternoon, until it goes down. I bought cheapie walmart curtains years ago, but I love this and now want to give the porch a makeover!! Maybe invest in some new blinds too, the ones that are hanging out there are about 14 years old. ;O)
