Today on Modern Builds we're using plywood to create an INSANE patterned wood floor with limited tools. If you want to learn more about why I used plywood instead of solid wood be sure to stick around until the end of the video where I go over that. If you want to make your own DIY hexagon patterned plywood floor, follow the link below to the written article on my website with PDF plans / templates for FREE

@R F Is that true? How come?
@brianwaugh9249
@brianwaugh9249 4 жыл бұрын
@R F Not necessarily true. This is plywood, NOT solid wood. Very little expansion and contraction particularly in a temperature controlled house. Due to the various direction of the strands in the plywood movement is negligible. Also, the beauty of this floor is that it is easily repairable. Remove and individual tile that is damaged and fix your floor easily. Waaay harder with a solid hardware floor, plus a heck of a lot more expensive.
@audratodd
@audratodd 3 жыл бұрын
@R F I lived in a really cool carriage house with plywood floors and it withstood a ton of traffic. If you watch to the end of the video he explains why they chose plywood instead of regular wood--it doesn't expand and contract.

Very nice. I helped my dad do this many years ago but we stained the plywood different shades before cutting it. When putting the pattern together the difference in shading of the plywood made it easier to put together and it looked amazing. Keep up the great work. God bless.

Really pleasant manners, clear way of speaking and exelent behaviour over all. Also I could get small glimse, how by working hard and neticiously, one can achieve good results. Finished floor looks really good and video as an whole, is great inspiration for DIY projects

Great job! I love the look and nothing about the job was incredibly complicated, but a heck of a lot of work. I can totally understand your comments about the monotony with cutting the pieces and laying them down. I like the comment you made on the podcast about being able to make adjustments if you started straying from a straight line with just a little trimming.

These look great! As i mentioned before, i did a similar design with a coffee table, but i used reclaimed oak flooring. My only concern with the plywood was refinishing, since you can't really sand much until you start hitting other plys in the plywood. But since this is a low traffic area, it doesn't seem like it'll be an issue. Nice work Mike!

I've been looking for an alternative flooring for my living room and this fits the bill. I've seen plywood used before, but they just cut it into planks and truthfully it was BORING. I watched your concrete overlay video and was impressed so I thought I'd check your other stuff out. This one got you a new subscriber. It's so refreshing to see a guy that actually knows what he's doing! Too many making over someone else's videos for content instead of knowing and teaching their content. And such a young guy too. This old geezer is totally a fan!

This is so awesome, a nice modern spin on parquet flooring! I'm thinking this might work really well with a tongue and groove engineered floor as well -- 2 of the 4 sides of each diamond would lock in nicely and prevent any lippage...

It is really a very nice job, it is all about details. The birch plywood color is quite uniform. If there are two colors, it will be much better. I used to do hexigon parquety for one project in Thailand with two colors, one is natural oil, the other is fumed oak. The effect is much better.
