I made a pair of saddle bags about 20 years ago out of wood but just used it for a mold then fiberglass over it and took the wood off then just kept building up the fiberglass until I thought it was strong enough and they turned out great might try it again, yours look great

Great. Fiberglass is not my skill and messy i guess. So i chose easier option. Mine turned out heavy and a bit larger. I use them as tool storage boxes now.

Great Job, I just love the Paint job. But yup, weight is the issue. I have a 150cc. I would go into fabricating with fibre glass instead of plywood, or I could infact construct the basic structure with mdf, then reinforce with sheets of fibre glass. Great, thanks for this video this has given me loads of ideas.

@DrJagatVlogs2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I have got this frame fabricated out of steel pipes. I think you can get it done locally but you need to make the boxes lighter by using thinner plywood and dimensions smaller for 150cc. All the best

@DrJagatVlogs2 жыл бұрын

I have few technical questions here 1. How much is the weight of each box ? How has it affected bike handling so far? 2. Can we go with lesser thickness of plywood ? If so, what do you think would be the least safest thickness ? 3. Have you considered using WPVC instead ? Great Rig BTW
@DrJagatVlogs2 жыл бұрын
I have not weighed the boxes but it definitely turned out to be heavier than I expected. The rear side feels heavier while riding. Lighter plywood would definitely be good option. Also Alluminium Composite sheet would fit the bill best as it's light, waterproof and rust proof. Also ACP sheets available in all desired colours so no hassle of painting

They are heavier than alluminium panniers?
@DrJagatVlogs2 жыл бұрын
@@VaivDsmarty 3 times heavier approx. But 1/4th the cost. But if made with 6mm waterproof plywood with 1 inch wood border weight will come down. Also I misjudged the size of side panniers. They are broader than required.
@DrJagatVlogs2 жыл бұрын
I think another option would be ACP Composite sheet with alluminium L brackets screwed for borders with silicon for waterproofing would be great. Light weight and much neater looking. Would look good in all matt black. You can also put plastic corners available online

Its waterproof plywood but I would not suggest using it in rainy season. No vibrations as the fit is perfect. You can also use rubber beading or silicon for the lid. Weight is on the higher side. Can solve that by using thinner plywood. Would be cheaper too
