The pivoting uprights are 7 3/4 inches apart on center of the bolts on the bottom and 5 1/2 inches apart where they connect to the extension rod. The nose of the cylinder is 5 1/2 inches up from the base and the hole where the rod end of the cylinder attaches to the pivot rod is 10 1/2 inches from the end that attaches to the base.

Wow - Great Job. I have not started to haunt with pneumatic props yet - I don't understand the logistics of it (The size of the tanks needed per prop the noise created by the compressor ... etc) Can't wait to see how that comes to play as THE DAY comes closer.

stevepss does a great video on using a Darlington to drive 12V items such as a solenoid. I'll put a link to it in the description. Good luck with the Picaxe. They make great haunt controllers.

Looks good, but I think it needs a bigger spider

I am going to build something like this for Village-Haunt 2013. Thanks for the beak-down!

@tzkelley My plan was that he will blend in when he's at rest. This will be placed near my porch which has enough light to illuminate him as he leaps up to the top of the graveyard fence. Of course, once I get him into place with all the lighting, I may have to make adjustments as I never seemed to be satisfied with a prop the first time.

Great job on the video Steve! I really like the spider how his legs move. Nice touch!

All my pneumatics that run on their own with a motion sensor are located within my graveyard behind the fence. The spider will be placed so that he will not extend over the fence to make sure that he will not be in contact with any trick or treaters.

You should add more Psi to make a better effect. I made a different type and the psi make a difference of the scaring from ok to high

Really awesome video, there are so many videos of jumpers with no detail. I just wonder what happens if that pipe catches someone in the jaw.

My spider is placed behind my cemetery fence and stops just before it crosses the fence line to prevent that exact thing from happening.

I don't suppose I cod get the measurements for all the pieces and placements? I want to build this.

I thought my jumping spider was good (winshield wiper motor) but that is fantastic.

Nice love it thanks for the detail

Looks awesome! The movement is perfect and it'll scare the crap out of people when they come by! Great idea to paint the whole thing black to help hide it but do you worry the black spider might also be hidden? Would a gray or tan one be easier to see while still keeping the mechanism hid?

I have a light placed to illuminate the area at the end of the spiders travel so that it is easy to see him (and scare you)!

By far the best I've seen, keep up the good work. I've been trying to build my own props, but fail. What would you need to begin building and creating animatronics?

If you're interested in learning more about animated prop building, check out my new book, The Ultimate Guide to Do It Yourself Animatronics - amzn.to/2Jl7gVu I think it you will find much of the information you seek!

Here are the dimensions and measurements not mentioned in the video. I used 1x2 inch tubing for the base and the 2 uprights that the nose of the cylinder attach to and 1 inch square tubing for the center rail, both the pivoting uprights and for the extender that the spider attaches to.

Wondering if you could provide the CODE SNIPPET for the Picaxe 18M2. My son and I are Novices to say the least at this. All is set to go but we are having difficulty trying to figure out the programing........

Is this alluminum ? I've done a previous build with steel and had some trouble with flow controlling it. Thanks , Ryan

Ryan, this one is steel and I welded it together. I have used aluminum for a popup. You can see it here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZq5kn-si5p3ecU

Thanks for posting this - it's really cool! Got a question though: how did you figure out the measurements, specifically that the two uprights need to be of different lengths and that they are 7.75" apart on the bottom and 5.50" apart on top - is there some site or virtual modeling software , or is it simply trial and error? I ask because it would be cool if there was an animated machine drawing site (similar to 507 Movements, like this pantograph animation 507movements.com/mm_246.html ) where one could figure out such things by modeling it , virtually...
@halstaff7 жыл бұрын
Some of it is trail and error although I often fabricate a prototype with Popsicle sticks before I start cutting metal. Here is a useful link to see how different lengths of components will change the movement - www.mekanizmalar.com/four-bar-mechanism.html

Thanks for the reply! I'm getting ready to build a Halloween prop, have an idea of what I want it to do, but unsure how to do it. It is based on the Trash Can Trauma (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmTaeJyuoJ2no6s) from Kick The Fog, but with an added wrinkle. Can I PM or email you?

Sure. Shoot me a pm on KZbin and I'll help if I can.
