Excellent, was it your own design? If you found you needed one, then I'm going to have to fix one too! I would suggest a little net over your overflow stand pipe? Also, how will you drain it for the winter? Great job and I bet that tea was good after the digging! 👍🏻☺️
@Wrighty3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, It's working really well, and yes it was my design mate. That's not a bad idea with the net on the overflow, it will stop any leaves getting down there. I do switch it of during the winter, but I don't drain it as its covered. I also heat my pond now, so its not necessary. Thanks mate, Terry.
@ItsWhatIDo3 жыл бұрын
The only thing that would worry me is if the weir got blocked and you ran out of water in the skimmer. You'd burn your pump out very quickly. How difficult would it be to fit a float switch? Really looks good though. You are definitely a master at building with the PP now.
@markj34573 жыл бұрын
Most modern pumps these days have a automatic cut off if they run dry. All you have to do is replenish the water, and turn the pump off and back on again and the pump will start up again. But a float switch is a good idea.
@Wrighty3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, This skimmer is no different to any other skimmer. Mark is right, most pumps have protection these days. You could fit a float switch, but keeping it free from debris that the skimmer has collected might be a problem. I will give it some thought mate. Thanks, Terry.

I do explain it in a video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGPQq6qml9GcgNU but I didn't make a video of making it. It's very easy to do mate. I just drilled 10mm holes in the copings and used 10mm Stainless Steel rods (bought on eBay) I then threaded the fencing through the netting and fixed it with cable ties. The fencing you'll find on eBay as well. It only takes me 1 minute to take off and 2 minutes to put back on. I much prefer it to a pond net. Hope this helps mate, Take care, Terry.

So much of the smaller pieces were being churned up in the skimmer pump and just returned to the pond. Do you have a plan to maybe push your skimmer return through your filter system at all Tel?
@Wrighty3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ray, thanks mate. The trouble is, my skimmer is too far from my filter house, and I'd have to dig the path up to get it over there, so it would be quite a job. The basket on my skimmer is quite small holes and seems to catch a lot of smaller debris. It needs a clean daily. Thanks mate, Terry.

@scottdaniels30333 жыл бұрын
@@Wrighty I remember when the boki river was optimized and the nitrates where so low that the Lilly pads had a hard time growing. But honestly mate it's about optimizing the health of your koi and reducing the maintenance. So possibly adding a bog that is able to thrive and only requires trimming of plant over growth and a yearly backwash might get the next level of clear water. As a follower years in the watching I am very curious what you can create. Either way you aren't in any risk of losing me as a dedicated fan to your work.
@Wrighty3 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, thank you for your kind comments and I really appreciate your continued support on KZbin. I totally agree, a bog filter would be an asset to the pond. The trouble is I only have a small back garden and the area you mentioned is not practical. I have my sieve filter and pond heater there which I need access to. I also need somewhere for our cat to do her business as I don't want her doing it in other peoples gardens. Another problem is, my wife tells me I have enough of the garden for my hobby now lol. With the heater and sieve in there it doesn't leave much room for a bog filter. Like I said, I will give it some thought mate. Thanks and take care, Terry.

Hi Glenn, and thanks mate. I have thought about connecting to the sieve, but it's got a long way to go and, I would have to dig the path up to get there. You can buy them from pond supply shops, but they are quite expensive. Terry.

The skimmer is doing a great job, is it worth increasing the rate of the pump ever so slightly to more of the debris to sink into the basket by about a half inch? Great update, the wife won’t be happy with the state of your clothes 😂

Hi Marty. and thank you. I have thought about turning the pump up a bit. Now I given it a good run I'll have a go and see what happens. The wife is use to me getting messed up lol. Thanks mate and take care, Terry.

Hi Barb, and thank you. Plastic welding does take a little getting use to, but it's surprising what a bit of practice will do. Take care, Terry
