Learn how to create a beautiful gold crown out of gum paste to use as a cake topper! Perfect for a prince or princess cake, quinceañera, or wedding cake. Full tutorial is on my blog here: sugarandsparrow.com/crown-cak...
Supplies:
3 inch ball of gum paste: amzn.to/3PTjALk
1-2 drops yellow food color gel: amzn.to/3Kq3xn8
1 Tbsp vegetable shortening
Small rolling pin: amzn.to/3wvVCPy
X-Acto knife: amzn.to/3Knb6en
Paring knife
Silicone crown mold: amzn.to/3pPznQC
Wax paper
Round can or tin that’s about 4 inches in diameter
Edible Art Paint in Glamorous Gold: amzn.to/3pO7J6B
Food Grade Paint Brush: amzn.to/3Kq3KXs
1) Tint the gum paste with the yellow food color gel. This helps make the paint job look more flawless in Step 6.
2) Roll the gum paste out until its as wide and tall as the silicone crown mold, then place it on top of the mold and press it in.
3) Trim the excess gum paste that overflows the mold using a paring knife held horizontally.
4) Carefully de-mold the crown and trim any excess gum paste with the x-acto knife.
5) Line a can with wax paper and press the crown onto the can to shape it into a semi-circle. Let the crown dry like this for 24 hours, then remove the crown from the can/wax paper to let dry for another 24 hours.
6) Paint the fully dried crown using the Edible Art Paint. Apply the first coat, wait 30 minutes, then apply a second coat.
7) Top your cake!
