Does anyone else know the poem “When the Frost Is on the Punkin’”? I remember reading this in grade school, but when I mention it to friends, they have never heard of it. James Whitcomb Riley was from a small town in Indiana not far from where I grew up, so maybe, he was better known in that area?

I have heard of the poem. Fall in Nova Scotia is beautiful. We have many orchards where you can pick apples and there are huge bins of pumpkins...you can take a wagon ride into the orchard or get pictures in a field of sunflowers. I love the fall...can you tell?? hahah

@@kristinacleveland1805 Yay! I thought it was a somewhat famous poem! I love fall, too. I am sure it is amazingly beautiful in Nova Scotia! We also have apple orchards and pumpkin patches in Illinois. Autumn is also a super popular time to hold flea markets and craft fairs.

Oh my gosh, I’m so embarrassed... I’m 61 and I didn’t know this was a real poem! Since the age of 9 or 10, this is how I remembered it: “When the weather’s hot and sticky it’s not time for dunkin’ dickie. When the frost is on the pumpkin, then it’s time for for dickie dunkin’.” I swear, l thought it was a one of those dirty little ditties. I’m mortified but, I’m still laughing my head off! We learned that poem in school in Jackson Mississippi. We had lots of poems to memorize and recite in class. Also one of the teachers favorite punishments for talking too much in class was to copy a page out of the dictionary during recess. I finished elementary school with above average vocabulary skills!

Many viewers have been asking about how to clean thrifted flowers and plants. I mentioned this in one of my early videos, so I keep forgetting to mention it again. I use Floracraft spray Silk Plant Cleaner. You can buy it at Walmart or Hobby Lobby for $5, but I have found it at Dollar Tree. (It is also available from Amazon for $12). I lay the flowers on an old towel, give them a good spritz, and when the flowers are dry, they are clean! If the flowers are really dusty, it may take a second spraying. Hope this helps!

I spray paint my cheap looking flowers all the time and they look beautiful after. Sometimes I spray a little gold wisps on them for a richer look. Try it, you will be happy you did. You can brush with acrylic paint too 💐

I clean mine in my laundry sink (or a bucket) with mild soap and water. Just like doing laundry keep colors separate or they will fade on each other.

Yes. I just wash mine. A quick dunk in a sink of soapy warm water with like colors works well.

Also if u need to cut large pieces or soft foam an electric carving knife (like for turkey or ham) works amazingly! U can find those at thrift shops a lot too.

I LOVE the alarm clock pumpkin! Pure genius! I Do remember that poem and many others from when I was in school. Another way to clean silk flowers and plants is to put them in a brown paper bag, pour in a bunch of salt and then close the top of the bag and shake like crazy. The salt and agitation knocks the dust off the florals without harming them. When you remove the florals you can just throw the bag away with the salt and dust inside.

My favorite piece was the alarm clock!!!!! That was absolutely adorable! A small note on the books...you know I was a library tech for many years and I love books, but I don't have a problem when people repurpose them into art. For example, some of those paper folding projects turn books into incredible display pieces.

Yes, I love those folding projects! I have one that I bought from a local crafter that says “READ”. (You need this one, too!) They are very time consuming, so I haven’t tried it myself.

I absolutly love the one of a kind projects. I am always looking at things different than others. I do it so ofter i dont realize it. When shopping with sisters and they see me pick up something they can see the wheels turning and ask " whatcha thinkin" I enjoy making things for my home a long with friends and family.
