I used to breed rabbits for about 10 years. My cages were constructed very similarly to yours, except my breeding does had 2'x 3' compartments. Whenever I ran out of the edging for the doorways, I would go to the drugstore and buy the plastic page protectors for papers that had the hard plastic spine that would slide over the folded edge of the page protector. The hard plastic spine was the perfect size for my doorways, and worked out fine for my cages.

Your cages reminds me of the ones my dad and grandpa built years ago. They were hung from the rafters of an old chicken house. Brought back so many good memories. I knew exactly what you were going to do with the wire left over after cutting out the door. However, not the shape and placement as I thought. Your idea was better. Can't wait for the part 3.

I like the reuse of the door cut out. I'm currently placing the hay on the floor or in another feeder box. I'll be ordering this wire for new cages this summer. Comment on door, I was concerned about flexable wire and predators getting in. Placing the hay box on edge of the door would make it harder to get in. Very nice video, thanks. Would like to see video on how you gathered the rabbit waste. I'm thinking plastic roofing and gutters.

Those cages REALLY AWESOME!!! I raise quail and I make the same cages. I have got a couple of helpful tips that would be great! #1: On your cuts with the grinder. I used a diamond blade because it has grinding surfaces on both sides of the blade to grind down the sharp edges off at the same time as you are cutting. #2: On your hay feeder.... I actually don’t cut all my nipples off because I use some of them to hang them on by curling them around the cage! On the other hand I also use (6) of the J-Clips actually to secure it on. 2 at the top on each side, 2 at the bottom on each side and 2 more on the bottom where it is folded up. I hope this would help you out on the next future builds on your cages? Keep up the great work!

Dennis Carter there is a good bit of time invested in them, yes. We temporarily have roofing tin over them and a heavy duty canvas tarp material for a wind break. Our rabbits are always kept outside. Once we get our rabbitry finished, these cages will be hung from a lean to that we’re going to add onto the side of our shop.

This is great! We have raised meat rabbits for 10 years. I have built many cages, with wire over wooden frames, which only lasted until the rabbits chewed through or rotted from rabbit waste. I, also, have purchased complex cages, but was never satisfied. I will build your cages in the spring! The design is perfect, down to the hay feeder. Will you suspend this? Is it rigid enough to suspend on cables? I’m a big fan of your channel. I love seeing a young couple pursuing this lifestyle. At 58, I wish I could go back in time and follow that path. We have our little farm now, but late in our lives. Thank you for sharing your experiences. Also, might consider a remote microphone, as your audio is very low, at times. Great content, however!

Jack Nealy thank you! And yes, when we’re all said and done with our rabbitry remodel, these will be hung from the rafters of a lean to we are going to add to the side of our shop. We do use a mic, but our setup is not the best.

Hey thank you for the video, really like it. Some questions: 1. Just curious how many rabbits are you intending to hold in there? It is really long, so I really doubt whether it can supports that much weight? 2. Are you holding the cage up or laying it over some ground/stone material? 3. Is that hay feeder really big enough? My rabbits eat like 6 times hay with your hay box size. So how often do you need to fill it again? Thanks again.
