I first watched a bismuth crystal video by Crazy Russian Hacker and loved it! Bismuth is a chemical element with a very low melting point for metal. You can melt this on your stove and it crystallises into incredible shapes. While it's cooling, oxidation on the surface produces different colours depending on the temperature in that particular area, so you can get some amazing rainbow effects. Sadly this is NOT a holo crystal since it doesn't change colour when you move it.
This DIY involves very high temperatures so please only do it under adult supervision. Wear heat-proof protection and make sure the room is well-ventilated. Any pots/containers should be thrown away, unless you only plan to re-use it for melting bismuth. Bismuth is safe to touch, but NOT safe to eat so please do not re-use contaminated kitchen utensils for food.

Beautiful! So are the crystals! Ha Ha! If you find a cocktail shaker cup, it being tall and narrow, can make really tall and deep crystals! Buy an ironing table cover to keep the bismuth hot longer. Pour a 5-8 pound mix in the cocktail cup and wrap it with the ironing cover! place cover on before pouring liquid! Let it cool slowly and touch the skin and see where the floating islands are with the underside crystals and pick up the island when ready and enjoy! Huge underside island Crystals!
