I cut three 1" strips the length of the "barrel" & glued them in place in the interior. This helps with the cascading of the rocks. With no strips the load tends to slide vs cascade.

Thanks! I'd considered that but didn't know if the extra effort would be worth it.

Hey I used 4 inch thin wall pvc pipe 7 inches long with the 4 inch test plug for the end and used the thin walled flat end caps for the glued on end , Been working great. I also built a 8 inch schedule 80 PVC pipe about 7 inches long that I took and cut two circles from ply wood to fit each end which is just a slight smaller that the diameter to felicitate a piece of auto inter tube as a seal with metal screws to secure the ends onto it. I put a 5/8 inch bolt in the middle of one end that I will be using to taking off to load and unload the barrel, Also took a piece of 1/2 metal about 8 inches long with a hole in the middle of it to accommodate the 5/8 inch bolt to go thru with two bolts which I threaded into the 1/2 steel piece at the right with apart to fit against the outer rim of the 6 inch pipe in order to get the end cap out of the pipe. I got my pieces of 8 inch Schedule 80 PVC pipe and some 6 inch schedule 80 PVC pipe from my local water dept. pieces that they had throwed away. Not good at drawing pictures or I would have sent a diagram of it.

I think I get the idea, even without diagrams. Those are all solid ideas. I love how creative these barrels can be. Has the thin wall pipe been holding up? I saw another youtubers video and his barrel was squishy from all the use he's put it through.
@ebbygshreve9577 Жыл бұрын
@@kengensjewelry Well so far they have been holding up. I only used thin wall because I already had a 8 ft piece of the thin wall. I am sure they will eventually wear out just the same as the rubber barrels will that would cost you many more Dollars. I have only been using them about two to three weeks so will just have to see how long they will hold out. I believe I can afford to replace them cheepier that the rubber barrels. Ha.

Wow this is gonna be great to watch, dont have any questions but enjoyed listening to all your information, first thing i do when watching videos click the 👍 button. I think its awesome your putting your tumbler design together. Looking forward to more videos and the results you get. Next you can make a big tire tumbler jk have you seen those videos on KZbin? They make me laugh but looks like they work. I sometimes look up home made tumblers. If i ever try to make something ill be sure to ask or keep watching what you do 👌 Thanks sharing your video with us see ya on the next one.

Actually, my dad and I have made a larger homemade tumbler. If you're thinking of making your own my video might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6GVpGCtd5qpgMk. As always, thanks for watching. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment. It reminded me that you had a tumble going I want to check back in on.

They make screw in end caps for this pipe NDS PVC S&D Cleanout Plug, 6 in. MPT 61P8

I wanted to avoid screw in types because I was afraid of grit and rock bits getting in the threads and eventually preventing a seal.

I take my test plugs apart and clean them with soapy water and then put them back together that way you can remove all of the old grit.
@kengensjewelry Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I've been afraid to take them apart completely.

@@kengensjewelry No problem only four parts of it, the top and the bottom and the rubber in the middle + the bolt that goes thru it. I do put a little white lithium grease on it just so the two end pieces will slide good on the rubber.

great video , so why not use a red test plug on both ends?
@kengensjewelry6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! That would certainly work, but at the time I was making the video I was afraid the plugs would leak or not be a permanent solution. After a year of using them, a test plug on both ends would certainly work. As long as the plugs are kept free of debris, they seal great and could be used at both ends.

What happened with the wine bottle?
@kengensjewelry Жыл бұрын
Oof. I believe I posted the results, but it might have been in a different video. I ended up putting ceramic media in with the bottle and found the rolling action caused some grooves to be cut into the side of the bottle. In the future, I'll probably do the same, but I'll have to adjust the bottle every couple of days.

Try using small ball shaped ceramic media? Maybe those wouldn’t wedge themselves as much?

Didn't see any primer used when glueing
@kengensjewelry8 ай бұрын
I can't remember if I did initially. I know I later corrected the barrels and I did then. I'll be redoing this video soon, though, and correcting previous errors.

Maybe glue some rubber on the end caps. I’d probably use some sort of resin or just use the lids on both sides. I’ve been wanting to try this as well PVC probably won’t last as long as the original barrels but it’s cheap so no biggie to replace.
@kengensjewelry9 ай бұрын
So far I haven't had any trouble with them holding up, other than the cheap end caps had to be replaced within a month. It's looking like I might get a year out of them before the barrels need to be replaced.
@kellyhollingsworth6100 Жыл бұрын
I think they will work good for 1st polish, but the rest I don't know let us know. Take a car tube and cut you some rubber pads for the inside of the lid caps. Happy hounding.

Yeah, these are definitely stage one dedicated. They are crazy loud, though. My system is these barrels stage one, my rubber barrels stage 2 and 3, and then my vibratory tumbler for stage 4. I push out a lot of rocks now!
@emanuelsommar7243 Жыл бұрын
Warning.. This is a very temporary solution . Be prepared to replace it often. IF you use sharp rocks it is a very temporary tumbler . It will last a little longer if you use river rocks. The plastic gets eatin up pretty quick , that is the main reason tumblers are rubber
@kengensjewelry Жыл бұрын
I've heard that. I don't know if I picked a thicker PVC or what, but mine have been rolling from several months with no thinning of the walls. If I can get a few more months out of them, they'll still end up cheaper than the rubber barrels.
