Do you have dimensions/plans for this?

Would it be possible to do this with an actual router, that has a switch??? Perhaps, (using a battery powered router as an example) by idk, locking a battery operated router into the on position, and getting a cordless battery connector, to hook to an empty battery shell, or something like that, and have a switch in between for turning on the unit, then you would have a unit that you can use elsewhere, likely, yet possibly still have all those benefits that you mentioned. I was thinking about getting a battery operated router, if I could find one that supports being used in a router table, and I guess, if I had to, I wouldn't mind using a plan like this, but with 3 sides, while keeping a frame on the open side for more stability, and with the open side, I would be able to access the switch, if I had to. Also, I wouldn't need the fence, for most of the things I would like to use the router table for, if I ever decided to build one... **Edit** even though you said it was a sealed box, I just got to the part where you made doors for it, so that part of my comment is covered, I guess...😂😂

AN UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIAL: I bought a couple of K-M stops because they looked like they’d work well. They are all that and a bag of chips! Cool tip on using the router to enlarge your dust collection hole, I would have made a quick trip to H-D for a hole saw I’d probably never use again. Thank you Jonathan for all you do! Stu

Love the DIY videos but I don’t know about other people but I would love to see a 4-5 part series of this actually being built step by step not just highlights with music. Even if you had a Patreon I’d jump all over that. Some parts of the build seem uncomplicated but others I’m scratching my head. Just a thought but I do enjoy your videos.

Nicely done Johnathan. Because my shop (corner of a garage) has such limited space, I built mine as a side extension to my table saw and shares the fence. Wish I had the space for a dedicated router table nice setup. On epoxying the t-track - chew up the outside/underside corners of the aluminum- it’ll ad some mechanical tooth for the epoxy to hold onto.

The video is well done and clearly extensively edited. Would have liked to see longer duration views of details and more discussion of critical design issues. For example, I would guess that two layers of 3/4 inch baltic is not going to sag under the weight of the router. The box enclosing the router and left definitely seems to cut down on sound. Would like to have had more information on how the dust collection works and again more pictures of the finished project from all angles.

As a novice, I have learned so much what not to do. Thank you! I am no longer going to use t-track. Instead I will be using the MatchFit system. Your design appears to be one that Matchfit will be a great alternative. Your stop block would also be able to be used with their track design. What do you think about the use of such a system on your table design?

I am in the process or building this router table now. But I already have a Triton router that has the built in lift. I also have a jessem router table top. Long story short I also have a Kreg router fence, so I am trying to coble all of this together and make it work. I have to have access to the router under the table to access the locking lever, and I think the on off switch I think because of a locking mechanism on the switch cover. So the front of the router box will actually be a door. Anyway I am a big fan, bought your plans a while back you had a sale and offered a bunch of your plans for a great price and I took advantage. Keep on trucking. 😎

Jonathan, you gave credit to a fellow woodworker for the idea to widen a hole. I have seen him do the same thing. What I came across recently may be interesting?? I observed that it appeared as a tip in the April 1991 (Issue #74) of the Woodsmith magazine. It seems that some woodworking techniques are tried & true, and some just keep popping up now and then from somewhere!

By order of importance (very subjective): 2 straight flutes (thin/thick), a rabbet, a flush trim bit, a 45-chamfer, a roundover, a tongue/groove set, and one decorative edge molding/ogee bit. Which bits you need depends heavily on your projects and desired style. For your first bits, I would actually just buy a cheap kit with 10-20 common bits, practice a whole bunch on scrap wood, then re-buy your favorites from a high quality brand.

I like the lift, don't get me wrong, but it's way too expensive for what it does.

And the part where he so causally mentions I made this part on my 3D printer (7:12) I’ll be forever in awe of your toys shop! You inspire me!

Would you share the plane/files for the 3D print for the tool holder on the router table?

This looks amazing!!! ... and I think I will build it (with some mods). I am a bit green, so I have a question ---- I do not see a T-track for a mitre going parallel to the fence. Is this something that simply is not used?

I was perfectly happy with my shop made router table until I watched this. Now I'm gonna have to make a new one. Keep up the great project videos, Jonathan!

You actually cut a 3.5 inch hole. 2.5 inch hole saw plus cutting an extra 0.5 inches on the radius equals 3.5 inches. Unless that router bit was only 0.25 inches.

Looks awesome. Thje sealed dust collection is a problem for me because I like to change the speed of my router. Very cool though :)

Awesome video - inspired me to take the plunge and start building my own router table. I’ve never built a cabinet before so this will be a challenge.
