DIY sandal strap velcro extension hack

My mother could not fasten the straps on her sandals so I made extension straps from velcro stick on (adhesive velcro strips).

Thank you for this! I have just finished widening two pairs of cute new sandals for the summer. I don't have swelling--my feet are just wide. This is a real help. I would add--Velcro tape is available double-sided, so you don't have to get the kind that sticks together.

Bryn, you are fantastic! So simple - when you know how... My husband's foot is still very swollen from an op, plus he has to wear an ankle brace on the same foot. This has solved a major problem - thank you.

Thanks very much for this explanation. I suffer from water retention, and the recommended treatment clashes with my other meds ... so the water retention gets progressively worse!!! I've ordered the velcro, and will fix the shoes tomorrow.

I appreciate this video. I have clubfoot on my right side and the bump on the instep of my foot makes it difficult to fasten straps - if I'm lucky enough to even find shoes with adjustable straps on the instep. Really wish more shoe companies would keep in mind not everyone has flat, perfect feet... I found a pair of sandals by Madewell that fit great but would be a bit more comfortable if I extend the velcro straps. Thanks again!
