I did the exact same thing a couple years ago with an old fire extinguisher just like yours. Some comments: I use an old cream separator strainer to help funnel in the sand (or crushed glass) and to filter out the chunks when reusing the media. It also keeps the sand out of the threads so the lid screws on easily. Welding on the tank is not an issue if you are a good welder using the right equipment. You need A LOT MORE AIR to make it work as it should. 5hp min with 1/2" or 3/4" line feeding it to a larger dia tip. I joined 2 of my compressors together for a combined 7hp and was happy with its cutting speed. Water was an issue, it would wet down the sand right below the sand regulating valve. Plugged up after 5 min of blasting. I changed the Tee to a "cross" so I could pull the plug out of the bottom of the cross to unplug. Now picked up a refrigerated air dryer, hope that takes care of the water, if not, I have some other ideas. Very frustrating when it plugs up but I'm happy with it, blasted a truck cab inside and out last year, 2 or 300lb of sand (kept sweeping it up and reusing) and 5 or 6 hours of labor to get it done. To be honest, I took the complete bed and front fenders up the road to a guy with a big system, $300, done the same day. So for me, maybe not worth it to do myself...

If you screen the sand with a tea strainer it will help remove the rocks, chunks, trash and other big stuff which will help stop the clogs. Also keeping the sand dry is very important .

Many take welding on pressure vessels for granted. It is wise to use a USB borescope to perform a visual inspection inside any tank you intend to use and not take safety for granted. When grinding do not create stress raisers on the pressure vessel. Consider using a vessel far too strong to fail at normal blasting pressures. For example instead a a sheet metal fire extinguisher, a welding shielding gas cylinder (no explosion risk during cutting) is spec'ed for thousands of psi/kilopascals and being thick much easier to weld safely.

Anyone have experience using clear pex for short hose, sections. It's used in as my air lines to reels... If sandblaster jams up any more, I'm thinking it's my next step. Most blockages have been able to clear with back pressure, shutting valve to the tank lines.

All you need is one small area of weakness in the tank and especially on a weld joint, and !BOOM!: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYezkHRtmqyMrtk I have a book I used when designing ASME pressure vessels. Every weld had to be CERTIFIED by special inspection processes. All materials and construction must adhere to the ASME standard. If not, the tank fails and must be discarded. Air, like steam is VERY DANGEROUS to play with!

Hes right you know. If you dont know, and i mean if you are not absolutely certain of what has been inside of the container, you shouldn't weld it. Any flammable materials may cause an explosion. If your welds are not very good, and i mean professional and certifiable, they could fail. In any pressure vessel, the risk of explosion from even small pressures, say 3 psi. On a 100 gallon container, you now have thousands of pounds of pressure and if a weld fails and cracks open, the metal can follow suit, and hey presto they have to mop up most of whoever was near it. Seriously. Pressure vessels are dangerous and unless you know exactly what you're doing, please don't play with them. People die every year from this stuff.

Nunca se debe soldar sobre metal limpiado con limpiafrenos, produce gases toxicos al soldar. Deberías utiilzar acetona mejor.
