Hey! Just saw you mentioned me in the video... Great video! I don't have time to watch all of it right now, but I'll surely be watching some of your other videos also!

Hi Julian. Very interesting. This is actually the first video I have seen on homemade sculptamold. I guess it doesn't matter that it is not perfectly smooth; that's nature for you!

Hi Jules, great to see that hillside section really coming along now. The steps and walkway have really added depth and perspective, and its all looking great now that gap between the sidings and the road under the bridge has been filled. That junction with the cottage is going to be a real draw to the eye, especially now with that new warehouse installed opposite. The stepped up nature of the building will enhance the contours of the scene, which I think is a good return for what I suppose is essentially two buildings out of one! What a bargain!😃 The homemade scultpamould has done a pretty damn good job so far and having just had a quick look at that excellent video, I might well pinch this idea too! The rock forms will obviously add texture and I look forward to the muddy scrub and wild grasses that you build up around it 😎 I am now eagerly awaiting the developments in the workshop, especially the arc welder effect. I've seen it a couple of times on layouts at exhibitions and it will lk great, especially if you can somehow wangle it so the fella is using the kit you have just bought and he is actually welding something visible through the workshop doors! 🤔 Cheers mate, great fun as ever! 🍻🍀👍

Thanks Tim. Yes, the workshop interior is going to need some thought and careful planning, particularly with the arc welder effect.

Hi Julian. Nice work. The home made sculptamold worked great. Well done. Looking forward to seeing it with a surface finish on. Stay safe. Monsville Railways

Being a cheapskate, I normally pick up old blenders from hard rubbish clearances and just use them for modeling until they die :) For any Aussies (and Kiwis too) who can't be bothered making their own Sculptamold, You can buy 10 kg of Sculpt-it for under $70 from Officeworks and craft stores. It used to be available in smaller quantities but I haven't seen any lately.

Thanks Gerry for the tip, I wasn't aware cheaper ready-made compounds were out there. I found Sculpt-it can be purchased in NZ from a school/craft supplies company for $86NZD. An equivalent 10kg amount of the Sculptamold brand would cost $205NZD so less than half the price.

Great video Julian especially on the diy sculptamold. Looking forward to the next time. Look after you and yours during the horrendous weather you are having in NZ. Peter

Thanks Peter. Fortunately where I live in the South Island, we're not experiencing any of the horrific weather bearing down on the North Island. Just recently we had a stretch of 30ºc+ days here.

Hi Julian. I found the the video very interesting and informative, especially the bit about the scultamould, as I didn't realise that you you make your own. You learn something new every day as the say... 🙂 Keep up the good work. Best wishes, Mark.

Really enjoyed this video Julian, you have planted a seed with me for when I am going to tackle a back drop hillside so thanks for this. Take care kind regards Barry..

I have tried possibly a new idea (well it is for me) shredded paper then spray it thinly with water added to plaster and add water to a cottage cheese thickness and apply to scenic area and smooth with wet finger.

Hi Julian, loving the way you are creating contours and kit bashing. When you finish (if we ever do?) this layout it is going to look so natural. Great tip on the diy compound. 🙏

Thanks David. That is the question - will the layout ever be finished?🙂

great video. havent checked out the other videos yet but wonder if blown insulation will work for the fiber component, also there is a blank area over the like button, but another thumbs up video
@StationRoadModelRailway Жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark. I did come across a video where a chap used blown insulation and it seemed to work quite well. I think he did have to extract the odd chunky bit first before mixing with the plaster.

Great work Julian, good bit of recycling of McDuffs coffee cup holders too! did you manage to get a refund on the 20 buck blender 🤣🤣

Yes, I did take it back, they didn't even look at and credited me. I suspect it might be one of their high-return items.
