Thanks for sharing. Other people seem to be trying these mats too, and so they must work. I will now see if I can do it too. 😊🌄🙏

Have bought several Dollar Tree mats, but never thought to check the thickness of my many old cutting mats. They are in storage until we move soon. Thanks for the idea of checking them for thickness. I have a caliper so that will be easy. 🙂

I did this! I had the same CM mat from years ago and it has redeemed the Gemini for me! This hack works beautifully! Thank you so much! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wonderful! Thank you for letting me know!

Yes, this is a great hack! I did the same thing but I ordered a self healing mat inexpensively off of Amazon and I am ever so happy that I did. There are still some dies and embossing folders that I have to fidget with in order to have a good result but once that is taken care of they turn out great!

I did notice that I have a couple of dies that don't cut all they way through, so I cut an extra shim. I was happy to be able to use something that I already had, but it is good to know that you can get them inexpensively on Amazon. Thanks for the tip!

Yes I bought a mat but I needed a shim thick enough to make it work.

You can straighten out your plates by running them under hot tap water for awhile and then place them across the middle of your double sink (if you have one ) or maybe back of a chair and just gently press down on ends until it is to your liking. The hot water softens the acrylic enough for you to be able to straighten it.

Thank you for the tip! I will try that. I do find that if I store them in the machine it actually helps too.

I tried this method with the larger Big Shot Plus cutting plate. I poured boiling water on the plate, then soaked it in the sink in the hot water, weighing it down with 2 cast iron pans in order to attempt to straighten it. I left it there at least 30-40 minutes. Unfortunately, it did not work. 😢

I just bought a cutting machine. Do you think a self-healing mat could be used on the top and bottom?
@StampingImperfection3 жыл бұрын
I think you only need the self healing mat on the cutting side of the die. I do think it would work on both sides, but you would have to play with the sandwich and add some extra shims. The self-healing mats I have are not as thick as the acrylic cutting plates, so I add extra shims to make it thick enough to get enough pressure to cut the paper.

My mats start to warp after several uses and become so unflat it makes it hard to use. Does that happen when you use your SHMats?
@StampingImperfection Жыл бұрын
They still warp, but not as much. Someone told me to run the acrylic mats under hot water to flatten them. I'm going to try it to see if it works.

i use the metal shim against the cutting size ising my self healing
@StampingImperfection3 жыл бұрын
That's a really good idea. It seems like it would add a little extra pressure. I will try that! Thank you for sharing!

Hi, MsCraftlife. I'm not sure if you meant you use the metal shim against the cutting SIDE of the dies, but if that's what you meant, it's possible you will dull your dies fairly quickly as they are not meant to cut into metal. Dies are so ridiculously expensive, I don't want to dull them.

Why do you keep saying 'I would have used ..... but I don't have it here'? Are you away from your home or craft room? I don't understand.

That is correct! My craft stash is currently in winter storage!
