Great way of guiding the sheet, a good idea, this system is not used even by professional wheel hand benders of all manufacturers.
@davidschwartz51276 жыл бұрын
Great Build! I built a similar forming tool several years ago to replace some furnace duct work in my house. I got the inspiration from and English wheel I saw on TV. Since I didn't have the room for a large bending machine or platform, I came up with this tool, takes up way less space and I believe the results were just as good if not better. I like your guide system setup it's much better then mine. I pre-loaded the single rod bearing, by threading it's rod in to the handle with a lock nut and slight bend in the rod this may not be necessary but that's how the English works. One other tool you need to go-a-long with your nifty forming tool is a rigidity line former, which is a tool that makes the X lines in long wide areas of duct work that would flex and make noise under pressure or vacuum. (you make already know this since you knew how to made this tool). I used an old thick 7 1/4" circular saw blade for the disc with the teeth cut off, mounted 2 bearings and a shaft thru the blade hole, then inserted the disc in the end of a old 1/2" steel water pipe notched out on one end for the rotating disc, with a bicycle hand bar grip on the end. I found it worked best at forming the rigidity lines laying on an old firm sheet of cardboard. Make one you'll see what I mean! Mentor, Ohio on the Southern shore of Lake Erie.

Okay...I've never seen a sheet metal bender that worked like that before. Always been the typical sheet metal break or pan box break. Pretty slick.

Like it; i did mine with 12mm threaded rods and nuts, no welding; I like your idea of drilling the ends of the rods to pin the bearings;

Thanks mate. I'm in Ontario Canada and I am starting to build peddle cars for Christmas gifts. Your tool will be of great help.Nice work.Now I need to figure out how to do radius bends.With a shrinker stretcher it wont be hard with a crisp line from your tool.

There is a company that sells a product that works the same way, but the small size like this starts at around $300USD! Good video showing the build. It looks just as robust as the manufactured version. Only advice is next time you install bearings, you should only apply force to the inner diameter, otherwise you can end up damaging or bending the bearing assembly. A piece of steel tubing or a deep socket work well typically. In this project, they slid eight on, so no big deal, but with tighter fits, damage is almost guaranteed. The big selling point on these is being able to bend the sheet a 3rd time to complete the box shape. A press brake cannot do that. Also, you can use it to roll the edges with a really tight 180° lip like tool box drawers have to increase rigidity.

Apologies for directness. Fascinating to watch evolve, it became part of a highly dangerous process. Inevitably as one moves back and forth ones weight and energy transfer is constantly in flux and the end points of the stroke remain constant in the physical metal plate. Over the edge with the arm and the corner of the sheet will rip up the inner forearm - it was nerving way more than the nonstop Muzak - forget it as kritik. . Be an observer of your vid with an intent to neutral assessment with regard to this. Consider, if you haven't already :-) as you r doing this process, if the potential is very close at hand for my considerations to be indicative of the predicament thanks for the like little bro - you suddenly really freaked me out - just the thought churns my guts. I do have scars lol (not at the time)

Hi, you can integrate a small scraper device like a lathe insert to pre shape / pre cut your bend line. This can make your device much more easy and precise to use also for thicker materials. Also I would not recommend to weld like this, but to hard solder. You can work entirely with brass or copper components. A much better result. Gruss von Herri in China :-)

Pretty interesting design, I haven't seen one like that before. Part way through the video it reminded me of an _English Wheel_ in minature, then I thought maybe a _Beading Tool_ or even a _Cutter_ towards the beginning of the demonstration. I guess all those tools use a repetitive rolling action with side loading/stress concentrated in a localized area of the sheet-metal to deform it into the desired shape. I enjoyed the neat way you captured the bearings without use of screws or welding. Greetings from Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Can’t go very thick with the metal. As someone has stated it is just a bead roller. Can do this on your work bench using angle to make crisp bends. Think I would make it heavier duty but for thin material the cost is low so go for it guy’s.

@monstermash74875 жыл бұрын
Cool! This seems like it migh be an ok field tool if you needed to make your own light gauge channel or angle. But there are tons of simple DIY breaks you can make for home fabrication and would have no use in a shop. Have you tested it much? What's the max gauge you've used it at? Have the bearings withstood the work? Really creative and impressive invention though, I want to try it out myself. Canada.
