About platinum based silicones:
These are said to have a higher level of detail and generally better properties, so they are popular.
Sprue Mold:
The advantage of the Sprue Mold over the normal Cap Mold is that you only have to rework one side of each cube. With the "normal" Cap Mold you have to rework the side of the "cap" and all adjacent sides of the cube. My special Cap Mold method with the pedestal, however, ensures that you only have to treat the cap side. So only one side, like with the Sprue Mold.
Special Cap Mold:
- If you want to make a mould from purchased cubes, you can either 3D print a pedestal yourself and use it for this method, or leave out the pedestal completely and make a "normal" Cap Mold mould. Then just skip the steps with the pedestal.
- You will of course need to treat the platform with InhibitX as it will be 3D printed for your own cubes.
- Leave the freshly cast mould for a few minutes so that larger bubbles have a chance to rise (but of course pay attention to the maximum processing time of your silicone, according to the manufacturer's instructions).
- You can use a toothpick to get stuck bubbles out of the gaps in the freshly poured mould if they do not rise on their own.
- The Vaseline release coat must be applied to the top of the mould everywhere except the cube itself. But any edge that comes right up to the cube must also be smeared so that the lid silicone doesn't bond with the body silicone there forever.
- Do not use rubber rings to hold the glue pack tape together, as these can distort the shape.
