@@OnlyFlans42 actually rubber was used around the same time as crossbows were invented, It was actually used by the olmec civilization in modern day mexico. A crossbow is just a horizontal slingshot. However, the original slingshot was just a string like material and a wider part for the ammo.

lol i made one of these as a kid 40 years ago. used wire coat hanger wire as ammo and more often than not they drew blood if you got hit lol. but be careful if you make the hook to tight it can catch on the rubber band and sling back and hit you in the face.

Put a shaft and flights behind the bent nail. You'll get more distance and accuracy. Thats how they made the slingshot darts for streetfights in Manila back in the day. If you got hit, theyd have to cut you up because it wont pull out

In the Philippines they’ll heat up and hammer out the tips of large nails and make a small broad head with a hook in it, like a fishing spear. They’ll take that same surgical rubber and shoot these nails after they’ve made a tail from frayed rope. I’ve never seen it but apparently there’s been numerous murders using that.

@Kahadi22 күн бұрын
So... Isn't that pretty much just how a crossbow works anyway? A long shaft with some sort of cord that you pull back, with some sort of hook or clamp to hold it in place, and a trigger mechanism to release it. The ammunition is designed to hold onto the cord well enough to stay in place but loosely enough that when the cord is released and snaps back, the projectile disconnects from the cord and goes flying. The only real difference is that crossbows, at least ones most people are familiar with, use a crank system to pull the cord back, allowing you to more safely and more easily pull the cord even further than you could manage with your fingers, providing more power in turn. But I'm pretty sure there are early crossbows that didn't have a crank and were just pulled back by hand, much like a normal bow but with the benefit of being able to lock it in place to more easily aim it.
