I’ve been keeping my 97 blazer alive and it has 452k on it. Both side rockers and wheel wells have been rebuilt over the years. I use the rust oleum for rust. You are correct, You can only delay it. I just do what’s needed yearly after winter, rust oleum, bondo, spot putty, primer, paint then clear coat.
