The Smartphone Projector is a charmingly lo-fi way to share your phone's screen. Just place any smartphone that will fit into the cardboard box and the lens enlarges the image by up to eight times! Since the whole thing is made from cardboard and glass, it’s ultra-portable, totally wireless, and uses no additional power.
The Smartphone Projector is a cardboard kit that you make into a handy device. Follow the simple instructions to fold and glue the contraption together and insert the glass lens. Once you’ve put it together, all you need is a dark room and the phone in your pocket. After setting it an appropriate distance from the wall, expand or contract the projector housing to set the focus, sit back, and enjoy!
With the Smartphone Projector, showing the latest viral video to your friends becomes a shared experience instead of a toe-stepping, neck-craning frenzy. Display your vacation snapshots on your living room wall, throw up some visuals for a house party, or watch a film in bed. And kids will enjoy the feeling of having their very own personal movie theater!

They had to simulate the projection most likely because of the fact that it would look like complete shit if they actually filmed it. Try filming a projection with any cameras of your own, it won't turn out right.

I didn't explain that well enough. • Connect your phone/iPod to a speaker/radio or whatever with USB. • Slip the USB through the slot that allows you to connect your charger with your device. • Turn the volume up • Shut the f*ck up • Enjoy the god damn movie.

I actually made one out of a shoe box and an old lense from a telescope. I also took the extra added step of bouncing the image off a small mirror inside the device before sending it to the lense. This way the image wasn't inverted. It only works in complete darkness and you have to either bluetooth the sound to a speaker or make a hole to run a headphone line in.

How to make a Movie Theater.(for sleepovers if you want) 1. Clear out a room. Can either be big or small (only walls and no shelf’s and all that stuff) 2. Get some comfy seats like beanbags or other stuff. 3. Use the Smartphone Projector 4. Move your microwave to the room. Incase your run out of popcorn. And also have a large amount of microwaveable popcorn beside the microwave. Also have lots of drinks and other snacks. 5. Plug in speakers through the charging port in the Projector 6. enjoy

A DIY smartphone projector may be an interesting way of demonstrating a basic optical principle but the resultant image is going to be VERY dim. Resolution won't be real good either, although it's doubtful that the picture will be bright enough to be able to tell.

It would be amazing if you could play games while in the projector.

This is a kind of neat idea, but unfortunately the product just didn't deliver. It is essentially made up of a box and a lens and it uses the light of the phone to project whatever is on the screen of the phone. I used it in a completely dark room with the phone turned up to full brightness. It did result in a viable image about twenty inches diagonally, but the image was dim and slightly blurry (using an iPhone 5s) using my oneplus one phone (which barely fits) I could get a pretty decent picture at twenty inches. I still doubt I would ever really use it though.

Isnt this idea old and made on youtube before? It was made on grant thompson, right ? Besides it doesnt worth almost 30$ for cardboard and a glass or lens.

wouldn't the brightness need to be all the way up too? I'm not sure how this would actually work since I'm sure they used a real projector to show how it would look. Also you would need an auxiliary cord to connect headphones/stereo speakers.
