In an effort to keep our dogs cool in the summer, we put together a cooling system for their kennel. Run with a single 200 watt solar panel and two 16 inch 12 volt radiator fans, this system works well and requires no battery or controller.

Well done that system it will last for long time and years to come I am from Australia Brisbane ,the weather can get really hot temperatures i have similar project to use for my patio with plant to cold down and dust work, with that tape of system, it save money no 💲🔋🔋🔋💲mate i am glad to see people like you use solar power and new idea 👍🏼 💯💯💯

Thanks Jorge, nice to hear that you're doing a similar setup like this in Australia. I'd like to be able to run an indoor air conditioner with this type of setup. It would be easy to rig up an evaporative cooler with a 12v pump and these fans, but when it's humid an AC setup would be so much better!

Nice!! This is similar to what I have. I have 2 12v car radiator fans connected to a 100w panel with a speed control to regulate the voltage to the fans. I use it to vent my attic here in Texas. It works great!

I bought a radiator fan but it came without connectors-what kind of connectors fit these? I'd like to use one rather than just a wire nut.

Using a 12V radiator fan as a solar FAN is a good idea. I have used a wind generator as a solar ceiling fan. This needs to be modified as it has no starting torque, and I need a motor driver.

Sounds like a good idea. Anything to bypass using a battery to me is one step closer to green energy!

In Australia, all roofs must have exhaust fan powered by recycled 12v fans and recycled solar panels, a 250-watt panel cost $10 and 12v fans from pick a part car shop cost $10.

Rough guess; (mostly Amazon)2-16 inch 12v radiator fans $80, 2 Aitrip PVM DC Speed controllers $26, Blade fusebox $10, wiring, PV 15A inline fuse, and fittings Approx $80, 200 watt foldable Renogy solar panel $400. $596 total estimate. Still working, and keeping the dogs cool.

How long have you use that system? When the light dims the controller can switch off and protect the fans?

I dial the speed controls up in the morning and turn them off at night. I've been using this set up for two summers so far. It's been working fine.

my panels run different voltages. 18 to 21 volts.

I'm using a Renogy 200 watt panel rated at 18V. I think the two speed controllers help bring the voltage down enough not to overpower the fans. I tried to use a 60 watt panel, but it didn't have enough electrical output to power the fans.
