@@carbon1493 hi) Buy only a processor. While the i3 processor is on the laptop, go to Sony's official website and install the latest BIOS version for your laptop model. If you change the processor yourself, then buy a syringe of thermal paste (1-2g, for example GD900, GD007). Wash off the old thermal grease from the Cooling System, install the i7 processor, smear the thermal grease over the entire crystal with a thin layer (0.2mm). Blow out dust from the radiator, disassemble the fan and drop 2-3 drops of machine oil into the bearing. Or take the laptop and the i7 processor to the computer workshop and have a master do it all.

Optibey comes in two types - 9.5mm and 12.7mm (measure the DVD height with a ruler). When 8GB of RAM the laptop works faster because it does not use the Swap File. SSD 120-128GB (SATA-lll, 2.5 V-NAND)

look through the program CPU-Z or Speccy what type of socket you have - if rPGA988, then you can install i5-2540m (2 сore / 35w) You can install i7-2670qm / i7-2720qm (45w), but since you have weak motherboard power and laptop cooling, you need to turn off the turbo boost on the i7 processor. Get 4 cores / 8 threads / 2.2 GHz = 2x performance boost. Disable turbo boost in Windows Power Plan => set the maximum power supply of the processor from the network and the battery to 99%, minimum 1%. So that the programs do not slow down, you need to have at least 8GB of RAM.

I3 to i7 is not compatible due to voltage difference. I7 is not recommended as it needs more power and generates more heat compared to i5 which the main board is not designed for. Look for a compatible i5 gen 3 processor.

A friend installed a quad-core i7-2670qm processor instead of a Pentium B960 and used it with the turbo-boost turned off at a base frequency of 2.2 GHz (the turbo-boost is turned off in the Windows Power Plan - the maximum processor power from the mains and the battery is 99%). But he had to install the laptop on a cooling pad and drilled holes in the bottom of the laptop so that the air could go in well. The processor temperatures are 85-89* C in the stress test, and in the browser 60* C. i5-2540m is an inexpensive and hassle-free upgrade :) i5 + SSD + 8gb RAM) i7-2670qm - see for yourself at your own risk)

That will need additional cooling. If it has the same model of Heat sink may be you can give a try. Do note that i7 generates a lot more heat and needs more power then your existing i5. Warning: Do at your own risk.
