I used this on nikon z50 with 1.8 50 z for full frame and it actually works. the vignette and distortion control is messed up but autofocus works flawlessly. Impressive!

What is the focal length of that lens you put in front of the camera sensor? You need to quantify parameters well when you experiment in order to make things repeatable and accurate. Magnification for a single lens M=f/(f-d), where F is the focal length and d is the distance between the magnifying lens and the object that needs to be magnified; In this case this is probably the image presented by the camera lens you are using. So your best way to give instructions is to measure and quote the focal length of the magnifying lens that works.

Well , just hold the lens a few meters away from a well lit window; Move the lens away from a piece of white card and measure the distance between card and lens eat which you get a focused image of the window. Its probably going to be maybe, 50 to 80 mm. This is the first important step. I made numerous experiments using lenses I got like you did, from camera extenders and converters to reduce the focal length and boost the aperture speed of camera lenses. I got really good results using Pentacon 6, medium format lenses as cine lenses.

It was 0.45x as I remember 🙂and it worked ok 🙂the results are on my channel , the videos that I shot were amazing 🙂 I even managed to get an iconic bokeh on my Helios 44m_2🙂

Couldn't you mount the glass inside the M42 adapter instead of inside the camera?

I did tried but because of the lens not been specifically Made for that and been sourced from other lens as a spare part, it was not focusing properly 😐so only way to fix that was to mount the lens as close to the sensor as possible 🙂

I use no brand cage from AliExpress , this cage original was meant for m50 ,as a lenses I use vintage soviet ones on m42 mount (Helios, industar, jupiter) because they're cheap in my country 🙂
