Thanks Daze. I remember your ingenuity from the mid 2000's on the Mustang Steve forum so this comes as no surprise. I do wish you would have shown the mounting of the chuck. My fat fingers wouldn't fit behind that plate if I had it on my lathe, at least not without a few expletives. BTW, I've diy-ed your strut rod mods, LCA bearings, and spring perch bearings since 2010...and it's still going strong. Thanks.

I have fat fingers too. Mounting the chuck is a pain with or with out the spindle lock. If I am being completely honest it is probably ever so slightly harder with the spindle lock but barley. Best thing I ever did to make installing a chuck easier was to start using the tail stock to hold it in place. I get one bolt loosely started, slide the chuck over the register, and then move the tail stock in place so that it holds the chuck to the spindle while I install the other two bolts. That technique has made all the difference in the world. Glad to here you have made good use of some of my other project information!!

Saw this posted on FB. Thanks for posting a video. I was wondering about hairline fitment, but the tape does the trick. Be sure to update this video and tell us how this gap works in the summertime. :D Minute 1:43 _ I see what you did there. I have used a piece of wood under the jaw in the 3 o'clock position. Keeps the chuck from rotating in the cutting direction. My old lathe had a treadmill motor and power tapping was a breeze. May have to "upgrade" the current Smithy Midas 1220 LTD to treadmill motors too. Keep innovating! I love watching these types of videos.

No riser, I went a slightly different direction 😂 kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYHbi2mlpbVogaM Yes that is a treadmill motor. I’m soon going to be putting out a video on the top 10 mods that I have made to this machine including upgrading to variable speed.
