Tools:
-jigsaw
-heat gun
-exacto knife
-drill with 3/8" bit
-measuring tape
-caulking gun
-staple gun
-tin snips
Materials:
-fabric (2 tablecloths)
- 1 inch screws
-concrete forms 6'
-chicken wire
-monster mud (1 box joint compound/ 1 gallon latex paint)
-latex gloves
-8 pool noodles
-washers
-liquid nails
-craft paints
-isopropyl alcohol
-4" cardboard tubing
Steps:
1. Take your concrete form and measure down 22" from the top and cut straight across.
2. Cut three 3" pieces of pool noodles and prop up one side of your 22" concrete form. We're creating a more organic feel to the tree by creating a slight angle to the trunk.
3. Wrap your chicken wire around your concrete form, giving yourself about 4" overlap and cutting with tin snips.
4. Screw in 1" screws on either side of your cut concrete form, then wrap your chicken wire around and tie it to the screws tightly.
5. Use liquid nails to glue your form back together. Don't worry if it doesn't feel too secure. Once the glue dries and we add the fabric with monster mud, everything will be very secure.
6. To add the arms of the tree, take your 4" cardboard tubing and place them where you want. Trace around the tubing Use your drill to pilot a hole and cut out the rest with your jigsaw.
7. Push your 4" tubing through the cutouts and screw and chicken wire them together just as you did to the trunk.
8. Add chicken wire to the ends of your tubing and bunch it up to give a tapered tree branch effect.
9. Draw and cut out your spooky face.
10. Cut your pool noodles lengthwise down the middle.
11. At the base of your trunk, take your pool noodles and heat them with your heat gun at about 12" from the end. These will serve as your roots. We're creating the bend of the roots from the trunk to the ground.
12. Secure your noodles to the trunk with 1" screws and washers.
13. Twist the noodles around your trunk and secure them in place to give your tree a twisted park appearance.
14. Mix your joint compound and paint together in a 5 gallon bucket to create your monstermud. I recommend getting a mixing bit for your drill gun. It saves a lot of time and effort.
15. Cut your material into 2'w x 4'L sections and dip them into your monster mud. Make sure your material is completely saturated.
16. Start from the bottom, staple your material down and pull tightly around your form. Make sure to staple on either side of your pool noodles to further define your twisted bark look.
17. To create the vines, take 3'sections of your fabric and, after you've coated them with monster mud, twist them and staple them in place.
18. Repeat this process for the entire tree and let it dry overnight.
19. Paint your tree with a base coat of black.
20. I used cheap craft paint thinned down 50/50 with isopropyl alcohol to airbrush the bark details.
21. Enjoy your creations.

Yeah no problem. So I added the pool noodle to create to create more of a twisted bark look. It just gave the tree way more character.

Right on and I am in part. All I use for the monster mud is 1 gallon regular latex house paint and 1 3.5 gallon box of joint compound.

I used a regular table cloth but you can really use anything. The ratio for monster mud is 1 3.5 gallon box of joint compound to 1 gallon of latex paint.
