Mate !!! You get a sub from me for actually explaining in good depth in a clear and easy to understand way with being pretentious and treating it like an illuminati secret...it sounds amazing as well

@horowizard

@Ross Millington The magazine is called Tape Op which is a great publication dedicated to modern sound recording. The title is a throwback to the days where you needed an actual person relegated to the duty of operating the transport controls of an open Reel-to-Reel machine during recording sessions.

Do you think one of those cheap little 6J1 tube preamps on amazon would power a reverb tank? It would be for guitar, and obviously it's a stereo preamp, so the chain would be: guitar> R preamp in> R preamp out> reverb in> reverb out> L pre in> L pre out > guitar amp. I'd probably figure out a way to make a dry wet mix with a small mixer or something.

What do you need to know to modify a circuit to what you have (like your power amp modification)? What book can I study know that?

I always recommend Nic Collins’ Handmade Electronic Music for anyone just starting out. It has a lot of circuits to build and has a laid back approach. If you are interested in power amps, I recommend Audio Power Amplifier Design by Douglas Self

If I run a line level (synth) into a booster pedal, and into a mixer, would that be enough signal?
@delta-9969
@delta-9969 4 жыл бұрын
booster pedal prob wouldnt be needed, he's running a line level drum machine straight into it here (probably -10 dbv). Not sure how much gain the preamp has but it's designed for guitars I think so probably plenty

For anyone reading if you find a transistorized hammond they (some) have a standalone driver board attached to the reverb tank. Look for one made in the late 70s or early 80s. (Dont ask me for a pinout i just picked the organ up today and usually deal with tube stuffs.)

Seems as though the Drive knob adds a bit of pre-delay somehow?

Reverb effect is easy to make at home, all you need is small 1W amplifier and tank with long spring in it, (you can literally make tank/box at home easy) and on both ends of spring inside must be inductors, (coil and magnet) or even easier, instead that you can also use one small speaker on the left side of tank (as input) and piezzo electric element on right side (as output of tank) ,as I did.. So, you first remove original speaker from 1W amplifier, and that wires go into input of reverb tank on the left side, signal then goes throw spring in piezzo element, and wires from piezzo element go out to another MAIN amplifier (or audio interface, whatever) right in input, where you plug guitar...you have usually few potentiometers on first small 1W amp, so you can change signal a lot, as you wish..I hope this is easy to understand, (for playing you plug guitar in small amp ofc) I use marshall ms-4 as a small amp

@@peterrabbit7173 It's not point always in buying, if you can make something yourself, I really love electronics btw, it's my hobby..I have few amps that I bought, but I also made 2 on my own from scratch, as well as couple pedals

Do you think I could just use a guitar amp pedals with a reverb tank without building anything?
@KyleEvansNewMedia
@KyleEvansNewMedia 3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no, you need some kind of power amp to drive the spring tank and a pedal won't cut it. But many kinds of small audio amps could work

I've not had any hands on experience withbapring reverb, other than built into a Marshall amp, so sorry if this is a daft question: can you actually hear the spring? As in, sound actually coming from the spring itself
@CarpeDiem23
@CarpeDiem23 5 жыл бұрын
Sound is NOT coming from spring, signal goes through spring into amp

I can hear music from the preamp in my turntable. Most people can't. The spring does generate some sound.

Hello, very interesting and thanks for sharing. I need help because I have a spring reverb unit, it was from a hammond and I would like to use it but I do not have an amplifier like the one you present, check the page and it becomes somewhat complex, you would know what materials I should buy to be able to use it, thank you very much.

Dude, the best part for me is seeing that piece of black tape on that bx5a. Why the hell would they put that stupid red label on the front, that doesn't come off? Haha, every time I look at mine, I see that stupid label on one, and half of a stupid red label on the other, because I tried to take it off. Haha!
