Well done! Sie. You asked about the bleeding of the stains. I saw another video, for a regular flag, were the guy making it made a small cut were to stains were going to meet (were the Union was going to meet the red and white). He said that it was to cut the fibers in the wood, and when he painted it it came out perfect, colors did not bleed into each other. Maybe this can help you.

Spacing mainly. Whenever I go over any of the "waves" or the side it changes the angle of the tape if that makes sense.
@HanleysHomestead
@HanleysHomestead 3 жыл бұрын
@@bshort6941 sure do and that's perfectly fine. When you look at a real draped flag the stripes are not perfectly in line. The first couple I made I made sure the spacing was perfect until one day I took the time to look at a real one now I just make sure that when I start a new stripe its spaced right but then I let the tape follow the wave pattern in the wood.

You said you have a problem with bleeding. Prior to staining, if you put just one coat of urethane on the parts that represent the white stripes and along the edges just use a smaller brush, you should avoid any bleeding. It worked for me, but, it's a bit time consuming. You would have to see if the time to profit ratio is feasible. If not, I really do like the torching the bleed areas. God bless and excellent work, sir

Was told to paint with clear coat over the edge of the paint and it will seal so there is no bleed thru and paint, pull off your tape and clean edge
@HanleysHomestead

Are you saying a coat of clear first?
@detroitgator1

@@HanleysHomestead not over the whole project. Put the tape down like you do, then, just over the seam of the tape where you want the crisp edge, apply a thin strip of poly. When dry, paint as you normally would as the poly will accept the paint but prevent it from bleeding under the tape. Try it on some scrap piece and see how the stain works on the poly. The trick works on painting moldings and baseboards.

@@HanleysHomestead I just was watching another video and the guy used a coat of modge podge over the area to seal the tape instead of the varnish

Use razor blades instead of tape. Rubber mallet in a line into wood. Leave in while staining
@HanleysHomestead

I tried that method and didn't care for it. I found that tape and fire gives it a better worn look.

No. Since it is too replicate a draped flag with folds, you don't want all 50.

Use razor blades in-between your colors. Gently tap the razor blade into the wood, and the stain won't bleed. You'll never see the razor blade line either.
@HanleysHomestead
@HanleysHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
I've tried that but didn't like it. I don't get much bleed through anyways so using the torch to blend it works well.
