What happens when you take one $1,200 4x4 S10, one 4.3 AWD Astro Van, and one $675 Amazon Turbo kit? The SIKE CLONE is born! In this episode, we tear down a nasty junkyard van and a nearly rust-free 4x4 short bed S10, add a cheap turbo kit, and merge the two of them together to create an AWD 4.3 Turbo truck, reminiscent of the GMC Syclone from 1991. But this is Stay Tuned, so we do it on the down and dirty, dirt cheap, and get it together quick!

Fabricating is awesome, but there's something so satisfying about a build done almost solely through swapping parts from vehicles in the same family. The idea of creating a whole new vehicle that's so much cooler than before, just by using ideas passed around about swapping and mix matching things is so cool to me.

Love the build! Your Astro has a 92-95 CPI 4.3 engine. Makes the most power of all the pre-2014 4.3's at 200HP/260TQ. The best rearend is an 8.5 in from a 1995 and up 4.3/5-speed S10 or Blazer 4x4. Your rearend is likely a 7.5inch. The 8.5 diff's are found in 1995 and up S10's and Blazers equipped with the L35 CPI 4.3/5-speed combo. 2WD are the narrowest at 54inches. Then there is the 59 in. width of the regular 4x4's like your red truck. Then the widest diff's are 63 inches in the ZR2'S . Most 8.5's are Gov-Lok with 3.73's. Later ones also have disk brakes.

Scoured the junkyards for years looking for the 2WD 8.5 S10 rearends. I've found two 2WD units, one 4WD, and probably 15 in the ZR2 trucks. The only I took home was from a 2001 Blazer, disc brake 8.6 with an open diff.

You got all the good stuff. 4.3 is totally slept on as a hot rod. Works super well in a small area, and cast heads means stone cold reliable. One thing I will say, a boat Intake manifold to get a normal fuel injection setup instead of the TBI. Boat manifolds for a 4.3 look like a mini tpi....... Just FYI, I own 3 bravadas and specifically the bravada with "smart track" 98 and up isn't really the good setup, before that has a really good AWD transfer case(the one you have) that actually splits torque front to back, where the later model bravada with "smart track " has a borg Warner single speed 231, automatic 4x4 with no low range, that operates the same as full size automatic 4x4 (using all the wheel position sensors to monitor difference front to back and automatically engage the transfer case with the body control module when it detects slip) They do however have the full time locked front diff. Any of the normal 4x4 transfer cases hold up fine, but it's not the traditional viscous coupler AWD that "splits torque". Just for anyone looking to do the same.

Hey Tony, im sure you've thought of it already, but just in case you havent.. Make sure the astrovan's front diff is the same ratio as the sykelone's rear diff. Also, it might just be the camera angle, but it looks like the corvette wheels are staggered sizes? Make sure they are a similar rolling diameter front to rear. Otherwise, that transfer is gonna have a bad day. Love these junkyard builds!

Cool project guys. If I’m not mistaken the engine that you’re installing is a “W” engine which has a balance shaft and has some different things going on. It should use the 2114 intake because it’s a vortec engine. You mentioned that you were using a 2111 which is for the non vortec engine. You may want to check out the gear ratios for the front and rear. They have to be the same otherwise you will have issues, so you may want to steal the rear differential carrier from the Astro. Also I think that the frame mount will need to be changed out to accommodate the mounting of the engine. Maybe from an earlier model S10. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Good luck

I like how Tony was commenting, how this kind of project, building something fun and fast for cheap, gives him more excitement than just whipping out the credit card and paying out the wazoo for super high end parts for everything... though of course expensive speed stuff can be fun too, just not in the cards for most mere mortals. This, is the essence of hot rodding. Fun project you can throw things together for cheap. Can't wait to see how well the Sike Clone runs.

Gotta love the GM lego kits, little bit of this one and a bit of that one. Pretty sure you are going to have to get that carb built specialy for the blow through though, I could be wrong but I don't think a normally vacuum driven carb likes being pressure fed and there is some special stuff like shaft seals that need to be modified. The other way is to put the whole carb in a pressure box with just an external throttle linkage and fuel pass through, or just go Holley EFI, hope that helps.

Stick an E85 carby on there and feed it some corn juice to help counter what I assume will be the higher compression of the NA motor. Honest, that's the reason I'm suggesting it. It has nothing to do with making it faster. 😁

the manifolds all being threaded is good. pick 2 to drill out and nut on each. other two holes get studs. perfect setup.

A friend back in the day had one of the Chattanooga Custom Astro vans that could be bought at any Chevy/GMC dealer and I don't care what anyone says that thing was the banger. Super plush seats, raised roof, dual A/C, it had TV and sweet paint and wheels. Very nice.

Man this is awesome content!!!! I love the parts interchange. Just like the old days when people didnt have thick wallets. This is using the human ingenuity to build what we need. And the project of a Cyclone clone, even better. Make it fast.

My first project messing around with a megasquirt as a kid setup years ago was a 4.3l turbo swap into a manual 98 firebird. It's liberating to have something as a teenager that was affordable to the point of not being afraid to just thrash it to learn this and that. My daily was a 99 Trans Am Firehawk that I kept pretty much stock outside a conservative tuneup along with the first owner's built transmission and suspension setup (late 50s gentlemen had it to take to car shows to avoid putting miles on his collectable corvettes, lol) so the 4.3l turbo car was something a friend and I learned a lot about wiring, setting up fuel injection, coils, the computer itself, tuning, etc. The junkyard owner local gave us all kinds of parts to mess with in exchange for me redoing their computers/database to move up from a 386 machine in the 00s.

Haven owned a bunch of s10 trucks, this 4x4 truck was in great shape and a steel at the price paid for it. They had rust problems and not many are in this kinda shape still. This makes me Wana find a good 1 and do this.
