Wow you knocked it out of the park on the 545 right angle binder video. Thank you for all the vintage sewing machine video's. I am really getting into these machine. I have learned so much on what different parts do and the maintenance fix's also the up keep and how to check out a machine. I got luckily when I purchased my 545 H4 from a news paper ad. It so far has passed all your test. Retired Sarge USAF

Thanks Robert! Glad you enjoyed it. I purchased the binder set (needleplate, feed dog and inner/outer foot) from Sharp Sewing on Ebay. Just search "Pfaff 545 binder" and it will show up. Thanks for the feedback!

I see you have an edge guide mounted to that 545-H3, did you dirll and tap the mounting holes into the machine yourself? Question number two my 545 H3 feed dog has only horizontal movement, no up and down movement.....does yours move vertically? Thanks for your reply.

it works better if you disengage the upper/lower movement of the feed dog. But that will make it not as good for normal use. Also 1245 synchronized binding unit fits on the 545 but the mounting screw in the bed of the machine is different size.

I have a pfaff 545-H4 and I was wondering where you got the drop down edge guide for your machine. What's the make and modle number for that part? I would love to have one for my machine. I love this video, it's a great idea and I can't wait to try it out for myself. Please keep the videos on the pfaff 545 coming. Thanks.

+David Rios Thanks for the positive comments David. I'll be doing a few more 545 videos down the road. As for the drop down edge guide. I don't know the part number but I do remember that it was made for an Adler 267. The Pfaff's don't have holes in the back of the machine to accept a drop down guide. You have to drill out the cast iron yourself and tap threads. I used a hand drill when I drilled out my 145H4 and it was very difficult. This one was drilled out on a drill press which went much more smoothly. The brand of the guide is Kwokhing and it's made for an Adler. I think i ordered it direct from HongKong a number of years back.

I just bought a pfaff 545 and I love it it works great and I have a Pfaff 145 works great too but I would like to change the hook to the 545 hook so I don’t run out of thread as fast will the 545 hook fit the 145 ? Thanks for all your videos very helpful.

Unfortunately their not interchangeable. Both are fantastic machines (I miss my 145-H4). Maybe keep the 145 and just use it with T70 thread?

Hi again,somewhere down in this thread you mentioned a 2.0 version of the synchronized binder. I'm ready to get started and wonder if you might be interested in sharing dimensions? Thanks!

That's awesome. I've been doing auto upholstery for several years now and didn't know there's attachments for binding!! I run a juki 563 daily but recently acquired a pfaff 1245,145,a consew 226 and a singer 111w155. I want to keep the 1245 because it's a beast. Right now it has issues. Thread isn't picking up because the bobbin isn't synchronized when the needle comes down. I don't know anything about the machines like stitch length etc. The knee lift is awesome! I have over an inch of lift. Could you contact me at all to possibly help me with understanding this machine? I will follow your channel.

Hi Kenneth, the adjustment manual for the Pfaff 1245 is available online for free. Google "Pfaff 1245 Service Manual". It will give you instructions for how to make adjustments to timing, needlebar height, feed dog stroke, etc. Goodluck!

@charbee18 жыл бұрын
Hi Serge, I just took delivery of the same assembly (needleplate, feed dog and inner/outer foot) for my 145 H4. However, when I cinch the needle plate down, the machine won't run. I wonder if you had to do any filing of the needle plate to get the bobbin position finger to fit under the needle plate properly? Maybe I just have a bad part? Also, one more basic question, what is it that makes this binder set an important part of the attachment? Any suggestions are appreciated and thanks for your work!
@thesergeant35248 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, You might have to do some filing. I can't remember if I had to do any for this particular set but the quality of these chinese made parts keeps going down. I ordered a set for my Pfaff 335 and had to heavily modify them. There was no way that they would have worked the way they arrived. Try marking the underside with a sharpie marker and lightly tighten and then rotate the hand wheel. Continue doing this until you make contact. Then pull the needle plate and look to see where the sharpie marker rubbed off and file there. Rinse and repeat. As for the binder itself, I'm using a Sailrite right angle binder. Although it's nice it's also expensive. There are probably some cheaper options out there but I haven't really looked. I've recieved a number of messages about this plate. Since making this video I've learned to TIG weld and am considering make a few to sell to people that want them. If that happens I'll post a new video about it.

Will this work with PFAFF 145 H3 ? also, since this has been a while, any better solution exists today ?
@thesergeant35242 жыл бұрын
Ya, it'll work, the 145 and 545 are basically the same machine except for bobbin size. I need to fabricate a new one of these out of metal but it works really well.

@@thesergeant3524 I can do that (free of charge for you) via fiber laser, if I could just get one metal unit for my 545. More than happy to help! Let me know! -Dave

Hey sergeant wanted to ask you a question I'm getting into making jeans and wanted to know what would you suggest cause I have access to a singer 99k and 192k but saw on this guys blogsvssmb.blogspot.ca/2012/04/difference-between-domestic-industrial.html not to use them for making runs of jeans so I was looking at getting a pfaff 142-6 2B 2 needle lock stitch machine instead but if you have any advice would be welcomed.
@thesergeant352410 жыл бұрын
You definitely don't want a 99 or 192 for what you're doing. Those aren't even full size domestic machines and I believe they were typically made with .5amp or less motors. A Pfaff 142 would be a great choice although you could probably get away with something as basic as a Singer 31-15. Watch this video to get an idea of the machine used in the process: Cool Hunting Video Presents: Roy Denim Goodluck!

@thesergeant35248 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't think so. The synchronized function is dependent on the arm being attached to the feed dogs (via the pin and hole in the needle plate/feed dog) I looked at the binder set for the 1508 and there are no provisions for this.

Thanks! I need to update this video actually because I've made a couple other versions, one out of steel and one out of aluminum, that are much more robust with a couple design improvements. I don't use them much anymore actually because I purchased a Pfaff 335 but for most items the flat bed w/ this attachment is every bit as good.
